Odd deficiency problems in homemade system

Hi,

I have a system that I build a few weeks ago using a commercial ebb and gro controller. The reservoir, hoses, buckets are from parts I got at the hardware store. I used a very small amount of silicone in a few spots where the hoses go into the buckets. For some odd reason, they just arent thriving. They have roots coming out the bottoms of every pot but above ground they are showing signs of deficiencies. The newer leaves are twisting on the ends. They also have shade leaves turning inward slightly.

Changing out the reservoir solution is not solving the problem. The hoses are standard hydroponic poly hose. The buckets are 2 gallon from home depot and they are growing in hydroton. My reservoir is a 35 gallon cheap garbage can I got from home depot. I am wondering if there is something about the plastic used to make the trash can that is poisoning the plants. Everything else used to build the system is either made for hydroponics or has been used by me before with no problems. Could the silicone be causing nutrients to lock out? Not sure where to start on this one.

It is not the water. I have another room thriving using the same water source.
