Observations on mold and how to prevent it

After 6 harvests I've come to the conclusion that mold starts when early pre-flowers die inside the buds. The big fat single flowers that grow at the larger nodes.
I've noticed that towards the end of flowering these single flowers start dying. The buds surrounding them and leaves are all alive and fine, but these single pre-flowers start dying and turning brown. You can watch it happen on the single pre-flowers along the main stems to get a gauge on what's going on inside the bud with the dying pre-flowers that you can't see before they rot and mold gets going.

Wtf can be done about this?
