Nutrients

In my opinion, this is where a lot growers waste money. Satisfying the plants needs for macro & micro nutrients does not require a half dozen different additives. You should be able to use 1 fertilizer for vegative growth, and 1 fertilizer for flowering, and get excellent results.

I would list limiting factors (in order of importance) as follows:

1) Lighting/lumens
2) Genetics
3) Medium
4) Co2 supplementation
5) Temperature
6) Nutrients

On a fixed budget, I would suggest allocating your money more towards the other limiting factors, and less towards the cannabis specific nutrients. Just my two cents.

What do you guys use for nutrients? Have you done any side by side comparisons with other nutrients, and if so, have you noticed any significant variations in your end product (potency, taste, yield, etc)?

General Hydroponics worked well, Technaflora worked well (my favorite), Advanced Nutrients works well but is WAAAYYY too damn expensive, I'm currently using Roots Organics but am having too many problems with it. I'll be switching to Subcool's super soil when it's done cooking. May end up back with Technafloa stuff before then If I get mad enough at Roots stuff.

I've also tried countless other additives with no way of knowing if they made it any better because without controlled testing all you're doing is blindly dumping stuff in that claims to do what marketers think you want it to do.

These reasons are why my next move is to super soil.

I have General Nutrients full line or expert line I guess (10 bottles) and I bought 6 bottles of Fox Farm shit for soil.
After extensive study on this site I am switching to Jack's Classic for nutrients. It is used by professional greenhouses and I bought the shit off Amazon.
I may just be making up a fuck ton of super soil and not even using nutrients at all.
I love to spend money on books and magazines. I don't mind buying great genetics and/or equipment. I am on the fence about bulbs, but to be safe I buy hortilux anyway. But the nutrients companies can kiss my ass!!!!!!! Fuck You nutrient companies!!!!:finger: When I use the same brand I should not need ten different gallons of anything but water!

Yep! I have tried them all. I switched to JR Peters (Jacks) about a year ago, and have never looked back. It's cheap, and it works!

my urine and worm poop........and a touch of kelp/fish. although i use super soil in my mix. i ranch my own worms, and make my own compost. vegetable gardening has been a great companion to my ethno-botanical endeavors, and a darn good reason for coming home with a truckload of free chicken poop, or tea leaves. i'm going to develop a strain called, "Craigslist Organic Kush." i pick up ALL kinds of nutes on the free,

i bought into the mindset that you had to spend big money on nutrients for good plants, i've tried a bunch of different products and they all seem to do a great job. the product i've been using for the past couple of years is miracle gro, for 6 bucks a box you can't beat it. lights, temps, airflow then genetics would be my budget priority.

That's some next level shit right there. I would LOVE to have the time to do what you're doing. Composting, worm ranching, etc .... but it's so much easier for me to just plop a teaspoon of nutrients in my bucket and stir! :-)

Lucas Formula...

I use General Hydro's Maxi Bloom from start to finish. EXCELLENT results (see 600w SugarPunch in sig) Only other additives I use are Molasses and some aquarium water which isn't a necessity but I have it so I might as well use it.

I paid $18 and have enough for about 10 grows....

Kevin, I've used MG Bloom Booster, start to finish with awesome results too.. (see 158w CFL grow)

I'm a House and Garden user. I use the full line up, and have been very happy with the results, especially the reduced salt buid up from the drip clean...I'm all hydro all the time though. If you're on a budget, this line is definatly not one to use LOL.

Humboldt's three part base, with the following additives
Flavorful
Honey Hydro
Prozyme
Equilibrium
I use about $100 worth per each 16 plant grow, start to finish!

Slowly learning that you don't need 10 different bottles to grow some fire. Pro grow/cal mag/ blackstrap molasses for veg and Botanicare original blend with humega cal mag + and blackstrap for flower. I'm getting great results and haven't hardly had to touch my ph meter.

i have used fox farm and advanced nutrients the results were good but advanced was definatly not worth the money at all fox farm is pretty reasonable imo as for price. now i just make soil with some sunshine #4, extra perlite, worm castings , dolomite lime (powdered), greensand and beneficial bacteria.. thats basically the "stock" soil i use i may add some guano in the soil before as well with heavy eaters.. The for the main source of food i only use guano and kelp teas that i brew differently for each strain for the most part and all the strains that were used were the same and i have DEFINATLY saved ALOT of money switching to what i do now and the results are the best ever. i had strains that i didnt even like till i grew them with the teas the smell and taste is soooo much better and smooth pure organics is the f**king shit.. ALSO i also out yielded both advanced and fox farm with the teas by a significant amount, but even if it didn't out yield it i would have still stuck with it theres just no better way

I may give organics a whirl. I've literally tinkered with everything else in my grow to the point where I could do it in my sleep. I need a new conquest! I might pick your brain a bit when I decide to try it out (if you don't mind).

My suggestion is to do what I do. You said on the other thread that you also stay atleast six plants under you max. Grab another light and set it up to play with. Then you can try a more expensive bulb, or a real cheap bulb that you heard was good. Try a different medium, or hydroponic. Whatever. Just fuck around, have fun. Post a thread on here and we can do little experiments. I'll sub to that shit. We can get better as a group.
I can argue this with you and buddy. - Why stay six plants under? What the fuck for? They won't give you a bonus six when you recertify. I'm not being a dick, I'm just saying. You both say you take great care of your patients. Well grow the other six plants and track down a cancer patient. Make them tincure, what ever the fuck. Use the six and fuck around and be better, get better. Then you can help us be better growers and that shit just multiplies.
I'm sure you use the other six and each grow try a few things, alteast a dozen growers will be better from watching the results. If those dozen are caregivers, then you are helping a bunch of fucking people. If I do a flood and drain table and you do soil, then your weed is better, that doesn't mean soil is better, maybe your weed would be better no matter what is used because you are a better grower. That is why if you have another light and you compare your results to your regular standard operation - you really know the deal.

The reason I stay 6 plants under is twofold. Every few rotations I have to swap out mammas. I have 4 strains on the go at any one time, thus 4 mamas. I have to add extra clones in to my rotation when I do this. Also, when I pull plants out of flowering, they get moved out of the room to make way for the next set of that particular strain going in to flowering under that bulb. The 6 plants that were just pulled would still count against my plant count until I get them trimmed and hung. This could take several days .... putting me right at my plant limit.

Edit: I don't have the room to add another light, so growing the other 6 plants out obviously doesn't mean I would yield more. Yield is based on the amount of watts in a given space ..... not the number of plants you can stuff in there.
