Nubie Plant Problems....

I have 6 growing in soil and one on bubble. A few days ago I stupped up my nutes to 3/4 from 1/2 power. Well none of the plants liked it very much. Yesterday they all started showing signs of severe stress and light nute burn. So, I flushed out all of the soil plants and changed the water in the bubbleponic plant but added a very little bit of nutes. One of my soil plants is still showing signs of stress. Her leaves are curled over and there isn't any sign of new growth. Anyone know what might be wrong with her? My bubbleponic plant looks all messed up. Her leaves are showing the true signs of nute burn. What can I do about her? Should I change the water again and keep the water around p6 for a few days? All the other plants look f-n great! Also....I'm having this issue and wondered what it might be. Some of my plants leaves from time to time will start to curl unwards on the outside of the leaves.....like they are trying to reach for something. what would cause this? When I add water to them they ususally are fine the next day. Could it be from them wanting water?

Let the pot dry 'right out' then flush water it again. In doing so you cause your plant to drink all that water you are feeding it rather than cherry picking from the root medium.

pH should be between 5.5 and 6.0 anyways. What is the ppm you are feeding your plant in the dwc with? What you are looking for is the new foliage whether or not that is developing nute burn as well.

Tell us a bit more about your plants, how old are they, what is the temps in the grow room, all that. It is a little difficult to make an assessment too when there is no visuals to get a good guage of things.

Thanks for your interest Jonus. Since posting that starter I've left all my plants alone. It's been about 6-7 days now. All my soil plants have recovered very nice and are looking great. I haven't touched them since flushing. I'm going to light water tonight and then give them some nutes next feeding. I think I stepped up the nutes too fast. I should've watered 1 or 2 more times at the same strength and then stepped them up. You asked me what my ppm is. I have no idea how to test that. I guess I need a tester but have no idea what kind of tester to buy? As far as my dwc project, she's battered like an abused wife. She is really not feelin the love from me. I made the mistake, being the nubie I am, of giving her nutes for soil. I made a post earlier today asking what kind of hydro nutes I should get? What would you suggest? I have 6 plants growing in soil right now. They range in age from about 23 to 34 days old. I'm growing fem White Widow and a stran called Purple High...I guess its from the haze family. They all are grown in temps ranging from about 73-79 degrees. They are all vegging in my closet right now. I have a pretty good vent system considering where they presently are. I'm constructing a bloom room as we speak. I'd post some pics of them but I'm not trying to draw attention to myself here. I forgot to tell you that I do have a ph reader and I keep everything as close to 6 as I can get it. My girls seem to like it :) Anyhow, I hope this helps your assesment. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I dont think soil based nutrients will have that affect on a DWC grow, most are not optimum for hydro, some are too organic and can easily lead to outbreaks of bad bacteria, but you still have to either get the EC, pH or water temps wrong (or a combination of) in order for them to have that affect. One of the most important factors in DWC as with any hydroponic method of growing, is accurate dosing of nutrients, know the parts per million strength of the nutrient in your tank is crucial.

These are the components you need to have or know when growing in any form of hydroponics:
- nutrient strength described as either parts per million (ppm) or electrical conductivity (E.C).
- pH
- temperature of the nutrient tank
- color and smell of the roots (dark patches or rotting smell are signs of root rot)
- oxygenators: bubblers to keep nutrient full of oxygen
- water conditioner: the usual one used by many contains at least hydrogen peroxide. Whichever you choose needs to be able to deal to pythium and also able to be used on a regular basis to prevent outbreaks of fungi in the water

If you feel that you have burnt your plants with over feeding then flush out the nutrients and in the new lot add only at half strength and keep it that way until you can purchase a ppm/e.c meter for testing nutrient strength.
