i don't see the problem with talking on a cell while driving unless you're a complete idiot and can't walk and chew gum at the same time, what's the issue? now texting obviously means you're not looking at the road and equals bad imo, but talking, idk, i just don't get all the hub bub about it.. after all truck drives have been talking on cb's for decades, wouldn't that be akin to talking on a cell phone?

Not really, because you aren't worried about just dropping a CB handset when a situation begins to evolve rapidly. Most folks who suddenly need two hands but one is holding an expensive and fragile iPhone ... experience a possibly consequential moment of dithering. cn

that's why you don't pay $600 for a pos iphone... dropping it on the ground and possibly running over it would only improve it imvho.. :D

That kind of comes back to his first sentence:

"unless you are a complete idiot" I think does a pretty good job of including someone who would rather hang on to a phone than save themselves and their much more expensive (in most cases) car.

If you cannot devote enough attention to the task at hand, especially when it is a dangerous task, then you shouldn't be doing it. That's just common sense but I think most modern cars and cell phones are equipped with a common sense blocker or something. Sure, people get distracted with all sorts of things, from dropping a cigarette to changing the radio and from eating fries to putting on makeup. Some old timers even read "newspapers". But cell phone use has skyrocketed in recent years.

I've seen truckers use CBs on Ice Road truckers and whatnot. The way they hold the handset mic, even while shifting and all that - it is a very different behavior than the common cell phone use I see - devoting one hand to it, or tilting your head to hold it, etc. I think there are subtleties that add to possible distraction. Talking on a cell phone is not like conversing with a passenger too, because of that reason. And, like cn said, your instinct isn't to protect your handset if you suddenly need both hands on the wheel or whatever.

Hands-free? That seems much better. However, once again, the individual should be able to focus on the primary task. Some people probably shouldn't distract themselves with any conversations.

Is this a video condeming driving and talking on a cell phone? In Michigan, everyone does. We only have a new law about texting and driving, which everyone still does anyway.

It looked a whole lot more dangerous for the driver of that bike to do what they did to tape it than the guy driving the car.

I fail to see what was so important to make a dangerous situation while operating that motorcycle. Silly.

I ride a motorcyle and distracted drivers are bikers nightmare. Weather its makeup installation, radio adjustment, road head it doesn't matter. If your rolling pay the fuck attention..
