Northern Lights Cabinet Grow..First Time

Took a few pictures this morning. She is looking good, I backed out of the nutes and have been straight water.

Not going to change light cycles this week. Based on the way its growing, I am going to continue using LST and let her spread out some more. I will have plenty of room. Plus I am deciding whether or not to go ahead and try a 12/12 from seed. I want to get the most yield that I can..think small yield small..lol.

You could always take a clone of it now and let it root now and shoot the clone(s) into the 12/12 cycle a week or so after you put that in.

Been reading but I dont know much about cloning yet. Still a noob grower and Am trying to take it one step at a time. If I decide to clone, it has to be taken before I start the flower cycle correct?

yeah, typically you want to leave a bit of veg time to recover but many people take cuttings during early flowering and have success rooting them, just not as easy and a bad time to add stress imo

hey arch, heres my step by step cloning method, worked great for me twice. i took mine while they a couple weeks into flowering but its best to do it before you start flowering. she's looking great man!!

Thanks for all of the input. Ill need to pick up some schultz take root powder. Can I put it into soil? Thats amazing..I didnt think it was that easy. How should I go about picking a clone? It looks like this strain has some pretty good genetics so it may be a good first try for me.

go to my thread dude, i just now cut 2 clones from the rocklock and kandy kush and they went straight into the soil. plus pics of doing it.

Arch, there are different techniques but obviously my advice is take it off from the bottom so you dont lose budsites, or large yielding sites.

Diagonal cut to allow for more surface area. also you dont need a lot of light, some people just put them in a windowsill that isn't facing the sun.

I just bought a 13w 6500 cfl.

Make sure you dont have too much rooting hormone on the cutting.

Also they can basically be entirely dead for weeks and somehow manage to root and survive so if possible give it a long time.

Muchas Gracious for the input! I am really close to going 12/12 with my current grow and I think I will go ahead and see what I can do with 12/12 from seed this run. Your input for cloning will definitely be used for sure. This will not be my last grow. I guess I am not so much reluctant as I am trying to keep this grow as neutral as possible other than some LST. I will grow up some day and be a mad scientist as you all are..lol..I am already hooked. Nice grow on the clones by the way CD. Is there a plant you touch that wont grow?

Beautiful grow man.

That's one hell of a dense canopy, it's like the fucking amazon rain forest. I think it has to do with the placement of the CFL's and the way the surround the plant.

Can't wait to see how this develops.

Thanks GC and CB! I am trying...If this site hadnt been here, I would be lost. Taking everything that I have read about CFL grows to heart, I employed the main theme which has always been proximity, proximity, proximity. The node spacing and density of this plant kind of proves the point. This girl did not have to stetch at all. I am going to go get another two light socket cords so that I can add one or two more directly over the canopy. I drilled more light location spots in the roof of the cabinet and added more hooks to hang from. I need to fill that void with more light due to her being trained to grow out. She is really taking off on me now. Monday looks like the day for light cycle switch.

If he could see her he'd probably break out that tune too.

Do you foresee any problems down the line with light penetration with the plant being so dense? Are you hoping to keep her short?

MG is not bad of choice when it comes to soil just types of MG such as slow release I have always used MG seed starting soil and it sounds like it is the same as that Coco it has No nuts, ph balanced, excellent drainage, and water retention and id bet a crap ton cheaper.

I dont really foresee light penetration being a problem. The reason is that I put a lot of forethought into my lighting set up. By that I mean placement and height adjustment. I can place a light any place and at any height within that cabinet. I have the ability to add more lighting or take away lighting. That amount of control over a key element in growing has allowed me to grow this plant pretty much how it is. I am and will continue to use LST also. As she grows I am continuously adjusting the restraints to keep her spread out and short. She hasnt gone up an inch in height over the last week and a half but she has grown over two inches. If you look at the picture all of the outside flower spots have been restrained from growing straight up. This will continue till she is done. I will keep her the perfect height, 3ft tall with a flat head, for as long as I can..lol. I just today made another lighting adjustment to giver her coverage over the top. Heres a few new pics.

Nice work arch .plant is lookin nice and healthy..I'm diggin the 3 y splitters you combined, but do you think it is a hazard at all? I'm building a similar cabinet and I'm trying to think of a good light fixture.. How dod you stop light leaking in between the doors ( where they open up) ..I used weather foam strips for the sides and bottoms of the door jams but can't think of a way to block light from inbetween the 2 doors.. Lookin awesome man keep up the good work

Thx Yoitsslobo! They work really well and because I am using CFL's the combined wattage still does not overload that fixture. They are 23w by the way. Even with the four of them, I am still less than a single 100w incandescent bulb. If I was using bigger bulbs I probably wouldnt use four on one cord fixture. Creative is the key for me. I am always looking for ways to minimize my limits and maximize the potential.

As for the light leakage where the doors meet...I used 3/8" x 3/16" foam weather stripping along the overlapping seam that joins them. Tada! LOL.

those y socket adapter are rated at 660w im pretty sure so you can hook up pretty much any medium sized light and and keep adding them, even more so with cfl's cause they use such low wattage
