Ill be planting in multiple plots which all will recieve sun for the full length of the day. Im digging the holes this weekend. Should I fill them now with my homemade soil mix or wait till I plant in May? The mix is composted horse manure, perlite, some organic potting soil and some of that good ol illinois dark soil. Water will not be a problem as we recieve suffiecent rains and there are water sources i can haul water too and from.

I will be germinating the plants and starting them in beer pong cups indoors. In order to prevent browsing from deer i will be using chicken wire (exposed to fire to dull the shine) to cage the plants and a few strips of 10lb fishing line at three diffrent levels around each small plot to deter them. The plots will also be in secluded locations which I know very well.

I am still a little unsure on which fertilizers to use. I am debating whether to use time released fertilizer or one which i apply more often. I can go to the locations once a day but will probally just tend them once a week as I work long hours and as an extra safety precaution.

I would appreciate any input that anyone has. I am hoping to get at least a pound of good stuff out of this grow although I know the potential exists for much much more than that.:blsmoke:

Good Luck to ya'll on your gardens this year

Wait till May its way too cold out still..
haha Im waiting till may but im prepareing the holes this weekend so I dont have to dig them later on. Illinois isnt that bad to grow outdoors our frosts end by may 1st at the latest and the growing season stretches to early to mid october on average. With hard frosts occuring around october 15th - 20th. If you choose the right variety that finishes in earlier such as the northern lights X skunk I decided upon you'll be fine.

If its police then yes parts of illinois arent the best especially the chicagoland area. Thank God I dont live near there haha

I do ;) but what Im saying is IL has very unpredictable weather... You never know, it could rain for weeks at a time, be cold at nights, ect. Last summer was pretty damn rainy as I recall.. Im not saying it cant be done, just lots of factors with ILs weather.. If I was you I would just grow them in pots.. I dunno how secluded ur location is, but growing them in pots gives you the advantage of being able to move them if need be. If someone finds it, theyll know its weed either way.. Buy good soil too, IL dirt doesnt have the nutes that plants need to grow.. Just telling you what I would do.. GL though!!:bigjoint:

haha ok will do. I just dont have a lot of money to spend on dirt which is why im mixing in some good top soil with some organic potting soil, composted horse manure for nitrogen, and perlite for drainage. Then ill also be fertilizing. As for detection i am in a pretty remote location and I know these woods, corn fields and praries like the back of my hand iv been exploring them my whole life and know some very hidden spots which i will be using
