Noob, 1week old and smell? Normal?

What's up everyone. I'm a noob not only to this site but to growing in general.

This past September I was smoking with a couple of my boys and I believe my buddy called the weed "Sour Kush". Who knows if that's even what it was. We all know how the chain of custody can be exaggerated lol.

Anyways it was definitely a very potent strain of bud, not something you'd expect to find seeds in, but he found 2. He was going to throw them out but I told him I'd take them. Brought them home and forgot about them until about three weeks ago.

I attempted to germ them in between paper towels and had no success. So I put them in some water to see if it would work. I read not to leave them in water for any longer than three days. And if they haven't sprouted by then they're probably no good. Well the third day came and nothing. So I figured what do I have to lose and just left them there.

About a week and a half later they actually sprouted. So I figured I might as well try to plant them. Grabbed some soil from the garage and potted them. It took 48 hours until they popped out of the soil. Which was this past Monday. When I went to water and check them this morning I noticed they smell dank already. And are already starting their second set of actual leaves.

They're about 2.75" tall and I'm using distilled water and a 75w CFL. Is a potent smell at this stage normal?

Thanks in advance!

Some strains do smell earlier than others, best to start plotting what you are gonna do with it, so after a couple of months of spring sunshine, you can put her away at the end of the day for some 12x12, 2 months of that and you got bud, if its a her

easy on the watering:they're in their most vulnerable stage as seedlings. i've been around young small plants that smelled to the high heavens! GL

I can't imagine a 3" tall plant putting out much of an odor. But I guess you have some dank on your hands. Actually I'm not even sure what "'dank" means as I'm kinda old school.

Thanks for the info! Yeah I'm trying to get a game plan together. Still learning so it's definitely going to be an experience. Trying to read up on as much as possible!

I'm using a spray bottle and hitting it when the top of the soil doesn't look moist (twice a day). So far it seems to be doing the trick. Trying to learn everything about nutrients for the upcoming weeks.

It doesn't smell from a distance. But when I have my face right up near the pot to look at them it's an undeniable smell for sure. I'm not sure what dank actually means either lol. But I know people use it in reference to good/stinky bud.

few things come to mind.

avoid planting more than 1 seed in each pot. then you wont have the possible roots getting tangled up an screwing you out of a decent harvest later on.
more lights when you can. then you might have a chance of pulling a decent harvest out of 75 watts which is questionable to say the least.

Good luck with your first grow though an welcome to the free foumr which offers tons of bud porn to get ur pencils reloaded with lead!

Thanks for the input. To be honest I was unsure on if they were even going to grow so I just slapped together this setup. I've been considering transplanting but I'm not sure how soon I could do it without hurting the plants. I also want to get another light fixture and higher wattage bulbs. Probably going to stay with CFLs. Any tips on transplanting? When to, etc?

yup, 2 in one pot is not a good idea

Thanks man. I'm hoping to transplant and change up my setup now that I see them actually growing well.

Damn that sucks. Thanks anyways man. I'm thinking about attempting to transplant them tonight when I get home. I just hope they're not too young or weak to do it successfully.

If anyone has any transplanting pointers it would be greatly appreciated!

well, i must first off say that i am a noob not only to this site but to growing as well. I did exactly what you did, i had 6 seeds, put them into 2 buckets. not much happened so i germinated a 7th seed and overnight i had 6 plants from 7 seeds LOL. After a few more days passed i had forgotten about the one i was germinating, next thing i know i had 7 plants from 7 seeds...oopss...lol

so once they were about the same size as your i pulled 2 out of each one and set them on their own, but then i had 2 pots with plants that were in the corner. knowing what i do now about LST i wish i would have just left them there so i could coil it, but oh well.

basically what i did was get a 5 gal bucket and fill it 3/4ths with dirt. dig a bowl out of the soil, its okay if it seems elevated because when you put the plant in you're gonna wanna compress it down a little bit..the only word i can think of is Firmly. i personally wouldn't even worry about it for at least week or two, they are pretty young, but as ^^^ stated don't let those roots become bound. anyways i hope this helps, my first grow was thrown together pretty quickly too. i planted on dec 3rd but man they sure come up fast. scoop a circle in the dirt around the bottom and you can either use a trowel and your hand or just use two hand, but line up your new container, dig down twice as deep as the plant goes and scoop the whool thing. should be minimum size of a softball. put it ontop of your 'dirt crater/bowl' in the recieving bucket. every crater i made was significantly smaller than the ball of dirt the i was putting into so give yourself plenty of room, then press the whole thing in there with a gentle amount of force. i let mine sit for a few hours then gave them some water. they didn't seem to respond much the first day but on day 2 i think they were liking the new digs!!

oh yeah, the best part about this whole story was the 7th plant that was germinated broke above the soil, after a week it wasn't doing to well and the stem broke, so then i was back down to 6. about 10 days after i noticed a tiny little bit of green breaking above the dirt again and low and behold the root system was healthy enough to regrow!! the sad part is when my buddy was helping me transplant he didnt know so the son of a bitch either murdered my baby or it could be right below the surface hoping to break through again!!!! lol anyways, good luck man i hope this was helpful.

@VanGrow, thanks man. Yeah I honestly didn't know what was going to come out of this. I didn't wanna go blow a bunch of money on supplies and have the plants not be successful lol. You definitely got lucky that the one that broke regrew! Good luck with your plants!

Update on my plants:
I transplanted them about twenty minutes ago. I've never done anything of the sort before and to say the least I'm not a very gentle person lol. I feel like they were just too small and weak. I got them in their new separate pots and another light fixture. HomeDepot didn't have a good assortment of bulbs. So I'm still using 75w CFLs. I plan on going to a local plant supply store tomorrow to find some better bulbs.

Will keep updates on the plants. I'm really hoping they pull through as I don't feel so confident in the transplants. Keep your fingers crossed for me!!
