Nitrogen source..sulphate of ammonia??

Ok, so i've been reading all over the web about how, more blue light and higher nitrogen levels in the early stages, helps promote female gendering in established sprouts. so i headed down to my local gardening store and sourced out some stuff called Sulphate of ammonia, that is apparently a nitrogen food for cabbages n such...
I am a lil concerned that their dosage levels are way too high for my plants, so i'd figure on using 1/10th and working a tolerance upto around 1/6th..

Have any of you guys used these types of products?? and with what results??
My current grows are in tomato growbag compost and i'm not sure how high the nitrogen levels in it are..
any suggestions greatly received..
