Nirvana's Papaya 400w MH grow.

I have had my new light set up for a couple days now and it has been working great. I recieved a MH light setup from a close friend as a gift and I can't afford to get a HPS set up so my grow will be the MH start to finnish. I took apart the ballast and bulb and built a wooden box with a plexiglass bottom. I bought some 4" dryer flex duct with some 90 degree elbows to attach to the end s of the box. I installed it in my closet and ran the duct up into my attic where it takes in cool air and returns it right back up. I took a small fan and took the guard and housing off of it and rigged it inside of a plastic gallon jar which I cut the bottom out of. The screw cap end is about 4" so it fit right into the duct. Quick ghetto inline duct fan. The temp in the closet right above the soil has held steady at about 74-78 degrees. I used 50/50 miracle grow soil with perlite. I planted my last 3 Papaya seeds 2 days ago and 2 of them are poking out nicely. I also have a aerogarden in the closet so I plan on dividing it in half and cloning in the ag then growing with the MH. But first I'll try these 3 and see how it turns out. Keep an eye out and let me know what you think and any improvements I can make. Also do you think I can use the 1 gallon pots through the whole grow? I plan on flowering at about a foot high.

well i actually started mine in dixie cups and transplanted them into their final pots at three weeks and slowly started adding nutes at a month. im am under the understanding that after so much time of adding nutes the soil gets a build up of things that can be not so great for your plant. dont quote me but i do believe its salt! ph levels can get outta hand if your really jackin em with nutes, i didnt really have a problem i was giving my plants alot of nutes with every watering. 10-10-10 during veg and 25-35-25 during flowering. i think next grow im going from dixies to one gallon then final transplant into a 5 gallon bucket. bigger the pot the bigger the yeild especially with this particular strain. also i dont know if this is your first grow, it is mine, although ive been researching for years, you still discover alot when you do it first hand. make sure you have adequet space for you plants. lets put it this way of the 7 that i started with unfortunatly only 2 were female.....

Yea I was thinking maybe a transplant eventually into 5 gallon buckets. Hopefully I get at least 1 female. If not it is on to bagseed. I'll keep an eye on yours to see how they look. Thanks.

Well there are the girls (hopefully). I have the third seed back out of the dirt and into a wet paper towel because when I put it in the soil it wasn't split all the way like the others were but I put it in the dirt anyway. It didn't do much so hopefully it isn't a dud. We'll see what happens. I wonder how long until I can sex these. I hate to waste all that time for nothing. Oh well. I have no patience.

I have Ice cold air from my attic blowing right through the light. I have the plants about a foot from the light and the temp probe stays right at the mid 70's. I tried moving it up closer but the temp jumped up to around 100 so back down it went. this summer I'll have to think of another way to cool the light. I'll probably do an outdoor grow. Guerilla style. Can't wait for that.

when your plants get taller make sure you keep that thermometer at the canopy of you plants, i had a bit of heat stress in the earlier stages of my grow but nothing that did any major damage.

your seedlings look very good can't wait to see them later on in the grow
Hey thanks. I had bad luck with my first grow so I need this one to work out for me. I also took a small plant out of my Aerogarden and put it in dirt with these hoping to save it. If I can keep from fucking these up it should be alright.

"Some say a comet will fall from the sky,
followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by fault lines that cannot sit still,
followed by millions of dumb founded dipshits.
Some say the end is near,
some say we'll armagedon soon.
Certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this
bullshit three ring circus side show world."

I just had to put some of genius Maynard's lyrics down to get me in the mood.
Anyway, The babies are doing fine and looking great. Still nice and dark green and no strange colored leaves yet. They have been taking water every couple of days. I do want to get a fan on them though to fatten up the stalks. I'll have to pick one up this weekend. Anyway thats it for now and I'll take a couple pics in a few days. Stay tuned.

Well its been a lazy saturday so I figured I'd put up a few more pictures. I am about nine or ten days in right now and it seems to be going pretty good. No major issues as of yet but there is still plenty of time to fuck them up. It seems to be a little slower than some of the other grows I've been watch on here but I think the papaya gets going a little slower. Or it's just me. I also put in a picture of the plant that is over a month old and I had problems with in the Aerogarden. I took it out and put it in soil and it seems to be alive but just is frigging tiny. I trimmed the top node off just to see if it kickstarts the plant back into a growth. We'll see if it works. The leaves are nice colors with five fingers but are tiny. Only about a inch long total. Do you think they will just stay small and never get big? It has been very cold up here in New England all week so I have been able to move my shelf up alot closer to the light and still stay in the 70's. I love taking that air from the attic to cool the light. Works great. Let me know what you think of it all.

This one is the one I am trying to save. Notice the leaves below are all fucked up from when they where in the AG and how they look now:
