020.jpg021.jpg022.jpg

heres the ladies at day 7,

Facts: Lights -starting under two 120w plant lights, one for each. finishing off with a 300w cfl 2700k and a blackstar 240w flowering LED

Soil - Cups started with generic potting soil, figured if they needed more nutrients in the soil I would be the provider within those first two to three weeks in cup, using cup method to start and transplant into FFOF and HF Jump Start two gallon clear buckets with drainage holes drilled into the bottoms.

Nutes- FF full line up, also on reserve is Formula Flora's full line up

For ph-ing- up vinegar, down baking soda

Water- Starting with distilled then bubbling then adding nutes then ph.

Congrats on your grow... Some quick tips:

1. Get those girls into solid color cups. You don't want to expose any roots to light. (You can just tape around your current clear cups, or put those clear cups into solid color cups. Anything that shields the roots from light)

2. Your Soil; I'd suggest you mix that FFoF with 33% (1/3) perlite or vermiculite for drainage purposes, Plus it also will "cool" that hot soil down a bit. (People say FFoF is too hot for seeds and/or seedlings. These people are idiots. Ignore them. Just dont give nutes too soon; See below)

3. Relating to the above; Nutrients. The FFoF is hot. Meaning it has plenty of nutrients already in it. I wouldn't suggest giving nutrients until week 4 or so.

4. PH Down = Vinegar --- PH Up = Baking Soda

i looked this morning and i see white very small parasite looking worms in the soil at the bottoms of the cups, should i transplant to new dirt?

@ Amaximus thanks for the tips

Congrats to you as well...and great tips Amaximus.....my two cents here is to stay away from the vinegar and baking soda for Ph adjustments as the adjustments tend not to last and evaporate/dissolve in the water. Suggestion, adjust aa gallon of water with the vinegar and or baking soda...measure Ph...then come back and measure Ph in an hour...most likely the adjustment will have changed, and you can expect the same thing when watering your girls....corrections to my suggestion...more then welcome RIU!! Good luck on your grow, count me subbed!!

@ Senor - Sorry I can't help with the worm issue. I havent experienced any pests so I haven't researched much into them. I know, it is a stupid way to go about things but I don't look much up until I need to. Anyway, This link might help you. Filled with photos, descriptions and all sorts of helpful info: https://www.rollitup.org/bugs/335046-grizzlys-guide-pulverizing-pests.html

@ del93 - Interesting about the vinegar and baking soda. I ran out of PH up/down a while ago and just got lazy and started using that stuff and I got curious just a few days ago. I ph'd a gallon of water to 6.7 and used a little bit of it. I had maybe 3/4 of a gallon leftover and decided to label the PH and leave it for a day. I checked the PH the next day and it read 6.8 before ticking back down to 6.7 after about 60 seconds submersed in the water. I ended up using the rest of that water without PHing it again but I don't know how it would last beyond that without the PH changing. But 24 hours seems to be ok... I'd be interested in reading more on it if you know any links off the top of your head...

Man, I'm chatty this morning...

Amaximus...honestly a guy at my local hydro store told me about it...now maybe he was trying to sell me the Ph up/down....but Ididgo home and test his theory...now I'm not sure how off your water was to begin with, and that might make a difference...but I needed to adjust almost a full point, and with in an hour it was back up....I'll scower the internet today, see if I find anything credible for ya

Thanks del, I appreciate it. Don't go crazy, I thought maybe you knew an article or two offhand. I just find this interesting...

For the record I believe my water PH'd to about 8.1 before I messed with it. So a 1.4 difference...

Just want to add that the water I started off with was tap water left out overnight (24 hours) before I took any readings or PHing.

i guess i learned my lesson not baking the EarthGro potting soil before i use it, i knew i shouldve started in the FFOF Mix..baking now and transplanting hopefully im not too late.

I just took a quick look and didn't really find much...although I did see something that said not to use both vinegar and baking soda at the same time as it will cause co2 in the water which is bad for plants, when its in the water that is...who knows really, you are Prolly right though....for a quick fix with water you will use with in 24 hours would be fine...but if your Ph ing 5 gallons your gonna let sit for a week or so, Prolly not ideal....good luck again...will be watching...I got a northern lights in the works myself!! :)

Not mixing the baking soda and vinegar together makes sense... Don't people use that exact mixture to pour down their clogged drains and it fizzles and expands like crazy? Maybe I'm thinking of a different mixture...

Anyway, I'd have to agree with you on all points... And just to check it out myself I'm going to PH a gallon to 6.5 right now and toss it to the side for a week and check it again. I'm curious, I have to know... I'll let ya know the results on your thread... Which I'll be checking out right now... :-o

@ senor - Sorry for hijacking the thread. If you have any other questions post away...

transplanted to the new pots with the FFOF mix until my 2gal airpots arrive. they are still goin so i didnt disturb the roots too much :) the NL is 6cm and the JH is 2cm

im looking for a good veg lamp, i was originally going to to do what you did on your "half assed cfl " with multiple lights in one socket, but if i can get it all in onewithout breaking the bank would be ideal. will this bulb work even though its not specifically for plants.. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005DHUQ86/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=APGNKGIBL58YH
That bulb will be fine. I actually have several of the same brand @ 45 watts each. If you can get a splitter for multiple bulbs as you may have seen on my journal I'd suggest that. First you can use multiple bulbs without multiple fixtures and second CFL's are best when the side of the coils are giving light to the plants not the "bottom". If you set up one fixture with 3 splitters to be used with 4 bulbs it works nice because there is an inverted space between them all in the center and you can hang that fucker right over you plant for great light penetration... CFL's need to be very close to work efficiently. 2-4 inches is where I kept them when I used them.

It's early... Still drinking coffee. If none of that made sense let me know. lol.

thats cool i got it, nifty little setup, gonna start with the two when they get here, i moved them under the Blackstar for the 20/4. watered today ph runofff 6.7... NL 7cm, JockHorror 2cm pretty sure the Jock Horror didnt make it thru, if that is the case im going with a Samara UltraViolet when my superoots pots get here

Day 14, 6.1ph going in, 6.3ph coming out. New pots should be delivered here any minute now. Lost the Jock Horror, will be starting a UltraViolet bean tonight !!

Day 17, as you can see the new pots arrived, the roots were taking over the cup so i transplanted and watered, been giving a dry ice co2 treatment every other day during the "night" period. My UltraViolet is almost ready for planting as well.

The new tent came in and was a snap setting up, one of my veg lamps broke so now she's got the blackstar 240w and a 300w equivalent cfl and shes loving life. Height is at 14 inches, shes at a rate of almost two in. per day !!
