Newbie Struggling With Plant Health And pH

Hi all, I'm new to the forum, and have spent hours viewing the many posts on plant health and pH. However, i've not seen any images of plants that are similar to what mine looks like. The images attached are of a 3 week old plant that is beginning to yellow. I've also tested the pH of my water, and it's at 7.4+.....

My Grow stats:
400w MH
18 / 6 light cycle (light is 18 inches above plant)
soil is a bag mix bought from Earl May garden center
Nutes - haven't fed yet, but have MG 12/8/4 (NPK)

If anyone can either offer some advice on a good course of action, or post links to answers that i can research on my own, that would be kool-aid :eyesmoke:

you can get PH down from a hydro store, a little goes a long way and will bring your PH down. you can also use lemon juice if you don't feel like buying PH down. Also, does the soil have any nutes in it? time release nutes perhaps? might just be nute lock out from to high of PH but that would have to be a pretty fickle plant.

Ya your Ph is way to high. Get what bamfrivet said to get and Ph a few gallons of water down to around 6.0 and run all of it through there testing the run off to monitor where it is at. Then only use water that has been Ph'd after you get it to an optimal level.

Looks good. Just getting pale so its time to hit it with your mg. 1/4str first week, 1/2 str 2nd week, full str 3rd week.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Quick follow-up question: Assuming I can get the pH down to proper levels, and can feed properly, how long before i should start to see the plant respond?

you will want to watch the new growth to see how it's responding. you might get some of the yellowing out but not all of it, the new growth shouldn't have any yellowing in it if you can get the ph under control and get it the nitrogen it needs.

My pH started rather high as well, I flushed at 6.3 and have been fluctuating waterings with 6.2-6.5 lately and all my ladies seem to be doing well.

Ok so this is the break down, plants need nitrogen, amoniacal nitrogen, urea nitrogen, phospate, potash, iron, magnesium, zinc. When your plant is deprived from any of these nutrients for too long your plant will get yellowish. Try buying water soluble nutrients to mix in with the water when you water your plant. You can buy the nutrients from alot of local stores. Also i think you should invest in a hydroponic system and use high pressure sodium lighting its totally worth it. I have a deep water culture with 150w hps.

Forget about PH and soil, all you are doing is fucking everything up adjusting the shit out of it. Use tap water and forget about Ph.

Oh and your over watering.

actually don't listen to this guy. If your not paying attention to your PH and giving it the proper nutrients, its like starving a human. How would you like it if you were locked on a closet for weeks without food, you will get skinny and look like shit. Same thing with plants lol i have an unconditional love for bud plants LMAO :)

you can get nutes that are "specially formulated" for marijuana and spend a fortune. Or you could just use single part nutes and mix a better nute supplement yourself. the nutes that they try and push on your for pot are the same as the nutes that you can use on tomatoes or things like that.

Worst advice ever.

BTW Cheddar420, make your adjustments small and over time. If you go from 7.4 to 6.5 over night you are going to fuck up your plant. Lower it in like .3 increments over the next several waterings...
