Hey guys whats up ok i could use any input or advice on building a grow room this is what i got so far; i was thinking about setting up a really small grow room in my closet it would be in a 36w x 18d x 42h its gonna be a black metal container (i posted a pic:mrgreen:). OK so now heres were its gonna get fun im gonna be putting in either a hydroponics DWC system or just soil(idk i would love some input), im going to put Reflective Mylar around the sides of the container attaching a fan on the side for the plants, as for lighting idk on what im going to use i prob. gonna use fluorescent lights because they don't output too much heat, im gonna have to cut 2 holes in it one for an air intake and the other for the carbon filter and outtake, caulk all the cracks and edges white, i was thing about putting up a partitioning it to have 2 sections(one for harvesting the other for growing, i was planing on having about 4 to 8 plants 1-2 in buding while the 2-4 are veging and 2-4 clones so that way ill have a constant and steddy supply of bud  what do u guys think?

soil or hydro is an old argument around here.for a 1st timer,I would suggest it comes down to you.if you are meticulous and pay attention to details, hydro will come easy. on the other hand, if you are not a perfectionist, soil is more forgiving.
as a side note, personal skill & enviroment will play a big factor but I have shared clones w/ 2 friends who are both very experienced and very good at what they do.my hydo buddy finished almost a month befor the soil guy & the high was the same but I noticed the soil grown stuff seemed to keep me high longer. after smoking a joint, the wife was looking for more after an hour w/ the hydro but closer to 2 hrs for the soil. she knew I was looking to compare the 2 but didn't know which was which & didn't know I was looking to see how long the high lasted. she also agreed that the high was about the same.

Black metal? It seems you would have some overheating problems and using flouros is a good idea...for veging plants, but what about when it comes to flowering? Using HID lights for flowering at least will produce much better yield, and make it worth your time, serious heating problems await though. Metal doesn't seem like a good idea for a grow space. If you insist on using it, I would at the very least remove shelves and put a vertical divider in there to give plenty of height space for your plants to grow.

definitely go with soil. iv been doin this for several years and im still usin soil. if you go with hydro for a first grow your gonna be disappointed with the outcome. soil is by far the easiest, most forgiving, and affordable grow medium. happy growing and as always, stay smokey :leaf:

kiss-ass <----------- this means nothing. just thought it looked funny lol

It boils down to what you want. If you want an easy grow that will provide you with a steady supply of high quality smoke go soil. If you want to moniter your grow several times a day, have immediate issues when you make a mistake and try to push your plants to produce large lesser quality smoke then go hydro.

instead of reflective mylar just paint it a flat white. and dont put two separate sections. if your gonna have an ongoing process of veg and flower you'd be better off just building another box because that one is not very big. it'll be fine for no more than about 4 plants. if you have 2 boxes (one for clones/veg and one for flower) it'll be alot easier to manage especially for a new grower. any questions feel free to ask. and once again, happy growing, best of luck, and as always, stay smokey :leaf:

p.s. black is good for the outside and will help keep a low profile if its in a dark corner of a garge, shed, basement, etc.

I would suggest you find a hurricane lanterns glass tube, and use it to make your own cooltube, and to use a 150W HID bulb in it, and use a computer fan for your intake and exhaust.. Also put a few coats of white paint (Bher titanium white) on that black metal. Somewhere online is a great guide for making a carbon filter from cheap pencil sharpeners. Outside of that I would just suggest you give soil a try, I am doing DWC at the moment and while it was fun at first, it is just too much freaking work at the end of your flowering cycle.

yea thats what i was planing on doing. would u know of a better building material that i could use i know alot of people would use wood but for my closet it wouldn't look too weird or suspicious. if i had a metal cabinet for "storage".

well i was trying to keep it small cuz the cabinet is already taking up about a little under half of my closet and if my whole closet is packed with cabinets and other stuff it might look suspicious and im trying to keep a vary low profile. thanks for ur input tho ill try and keep that in mind:peace: and keep smokin.

yea i heard that u have to clean it out every week or so and everyday you have to fill it and cheack the ppm and ph and shit but is it worth the extra work tho???if it is i mean its easy to make the DWC rig and set it up i even have a fish take air pump that i could use.

as iv said before im a little short on room but i do have an attic when i harvest do u think it would smell too much if i just hung them up there and just kept a close eye on them

you just described my mother/clone/veg room except I also have 6 23 w cfls & use either or both depending on what I have cooking at the moment. 1 pc fan on the cooltub that runs w/ the light (takes air from the cab)& 1 hooked to a thermostat set for 80 w/ a pasive intake.
