Hi lads,

Ive been doing alot of research into cobs and am going bite the bullet and build my own setup.

The cobs im looking at are citizen1212 3500k 90cri. Yes i know there is better out there but thats what my budget will allow for now, 5 cobs on ebay for 50euro.

My grow space is a closet 16"x20" x42" high, i have 2 of these.
I was going to run 4 cobs at 50w but i think thats is overkill in my space? So im thinking ill run 3cobs in 1 closet for flowering and 2 in the other for seedlings/young plants.
What driver would run these at 50w each?

Or would i be better of with some Bridgelux eb strips?

Let's stir some shit up! That's right, Cheap Chinese lights... all the parts you would buy are made in china... why not go to the source?

Citizen COBs and Meanwell drivers... you can find these lights on amazon and ebay if china is too hinky for you... they also have cree chips as an option.

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Citizen-CLU048-1212-COB-LED-Grow-Light-300W-600W-900W-Full-Spectrum-Greenhouse-Hydroponics-Plant-Growing/3193042_32893677571.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.2.b9d23674WiJ1k4

fyi, citizen are good chips, for both price and performance. Citizen and Cree chips are cool even by the LED snobs.

those are tiny spaces man, Your better off just doing a 12/12 from seed in solo cups. put 2 cobs in each space, 6 solos in each space, for total of 12 plants. the reason for doing this a its better to have a small SeaOfGreen, then 1 plant, that will be overgrown for the area. You need fans for air movement and stuff like that too. if you get 15 grams each small plant, those 12 will give you about 180g per run of 90 days at the most, dependent on genetics you use and flower time. if you can find a fast flower genetics, like 65 days from start to finish, nice little runs for those spaces. you definitely wont get comparable results with 1 plant,

What's the problem? Seriously.
I red op message 4 times and he never spoke about "cheap chinese lights".
Can you evaluate the light you linked? Do you know what you re talking about outside the "led snob"?

Are you thinking of buying from export estonia?
Imho 1 cob per sqft is enough, you can run 2 in flowering tent and there would be enough light.
A MW HLG-120h-c1400 driver would give u up to 90-100watts, more than what you need and you should be able add a 3rd cob and dim down to 700mA for improved efficiency.
Check datasheet, not sure about Vf

That's a pretty low ceiling go for strips eb are more budget you could probably afford some extra strips for side lighting if need be. You could probably get away with 2 strips per side if you are on a really tight budget but doing like 4-5 strips per side at lower current would allow you to grow really close to the lights.

Thanks for the thought, i have never thought of sea if green, only problem would be the higher risk if caught. I will definitely check out some sea of green grows.

I was going to get the cobs from ebay, 50euro for 5. 90-100watts, is that total watts or per cob?

Ye it is a low ceiling, it was more but ive recently halfed it to grow more. How many strips would you have over the canopy, what sort of spacing between them? Side lighting can/will be added after.

I bought from export-estonia too, got 5x1212 gen6 90cri and they rock.
90-100w is the total wattage per flowering space, I wouldn't drive the 1212s at more than 50w per cob + you have a short grow space. I wouldn't skip on the Bridgelux eb2 strips (1 or 2 ft).

Imho you don't need more than 50w to keep a mother plant alive and some clones.

I think 100W COB is very powerful for your small grow size. What is chips brand of COB you loooked? I think only Cree&Osram chips can solve heat problem for COB.
Consider your budget, I recommend a small light Mars Reflector 240 led for you:

Don't buy any Mars junk,Devile is just a shill for Mars. Invest in the best you can afford,it's easy to diy.

that 100 watt mars cob.....i like the small timber chibi a lot better. And it would be better to have 2 smaller wattage lamps (adjustable) in a fixture or hanging on a string. Like a pair of citizens run at a total of 100 watts with a dimmer. If your space changes it will be useable.

Timbers 2VL would be overkill but that chibi would be perfect. Or a small quantum board would do well too. A 135 or 100 watt

Cheers for the replies lads, iv bought 6 bridgelux eb 3500k 1ft strips, im going to grow 4 or 6 autos in solo cups or small fabric pots. Later on ill get 6 3000k strips that ill use to make 2 light fixtures, 3 3500k 3 3000k, and then have 8-12 growing perpetually in 2 16"x20" spaces.

My new lights have arrived. I have built my frame and have the strips mounted. I need to get some 18gauge wire for wiring the strips together. Looking at my driver it only has live and neutral in, how do i go about grounding it or is it fine without? And should i run a ground from my frame to the wall plug ground?
