i say no soil..soil is very hard.
i can do a better grow and it cheaper..this is a hempy bucket, cost me $8 per plant and is all re-usable and you can get the stuff from walmart.
get the plastic dome it comes with 72 peat pucks for $10.thats a good way to get the seeds going.when roots are coming out the bottom put it into the hempy bucket and put an osculating fan on low to help the stem strength.no nutes for 2-3 weeks from there.
a timer is about $10 at walmart(make sure you get the one with 3 prongs so you have the ground, the cheapest ones only have 2 and your ballast will not plug in) your going to go 18 on 6 off for veg.i would hold off on the hps light for a few weeks, just get some 6500k cfl's and keep them 2 inches from the plant tops, this will help stop the stretching your going to get from the hps.
pm me if you want to try this way,its very easy .i can tell you every thing you will need to know and i'm always here to help.

thanks dude. I have a really informative book that i've been skimming thru, but I'm not the bookworm type. I'll play it by ear, when I can, i'll pick up a carbon filter exhaust system and CO2 setup.

i also use advanced nutrients but there not cheap..check ebay for some sensi grow..vho is a foliar feed and its very good if you can find it. mites are less likely with a soil-less grow but home depot sells hot shot no pest strips and there pretty good for $6..with a hempy bucket and my feeding advise you will not have any nute burn but if you ever do its very easy to fix, just pour in a gallon of nute free water and your good.i can't tell you a watering cycle until i know what size bucket your going to use.if your going hempy get 2 gallon plastic mop buckets $2 and walmart.that is good for a 3ft plant if your going bigger then get 3 gallon buckets thats what i use for my 5ft plants.

sorry but i have to show you my
strawberry cough,, it needs about 4 more weeks but its looking nice.

fox farms ocean forest soil + their potting mix mixed at a 3:1 ratio works wonders. no need to feed for the first month too...

I would definately prefer to go hydro, I just figured soil would be easier for a 1st grow. I think I would have to order fox farm soil online, don't know anyone in my area that carries it. Everything has come in, I'll set up the tent and hang the light over the weekend and I'll post some pics. Anyone familiar with how to rig up a carbon filter for cheap?
