New setup and I have a couple Questions

Hey everyone, I've been searching this site getting such great info I had to join so I could ask some Questions. I posted this in another forum but thought it might be better suited for the grow room setup forum. I'm sorry for double posting, but if a moderator reads this you can delete my other one.

I was a grower for a few years with a basic ebb & flow setup, I ran a SOG on a 4' x 8' table under 2 - 1000 watt lights. When things got shady in Southern California and medical Marijuana I decided to stop growing. I have since decided to get back into the hobby since I am about to get my medical card renewed after it has been expired for 2 years.

Here's my new setup:

I have a 4'5" x 2'4" x 6'7" Hydrohut setup in my room vented with a 6" active air fan and Carbonaire filter. I just ordered my light which is a 600 watt lumatek hps ballast (or switchable, I forget) with a cool tube hood, all connected to movable light hangers. The fan and filter will be dual purpose, venting the light and room until I can afford another smaller 4" fan for venting the room separately. The fan is hooked up to a CAP AIRE 2 Temp/Hum controller set for 76* (thats when it will start venting). I will eventually be installing a 24" x 44" ebb&flow system using Coco Coir w/ Clay Gro rocks on top. Nutrients will be AN - Sensi Grow & Bloom 2 part plus some sort of AN additives. Clones will be rooted in a separate area in a humidome under 4 floro's w/ a warming mat.

Now for my ???'s

1) Before installing the Hydro system I will be vegging a mother plant or 3 in the tent. I am looking to order seeds and am looking at the strain "Big Bud". I am familiar with the smoke, but not with growing habbits of this particular plant and am curious if it responds well to topping? I am not looking to increase volume, although that would also be nice. I will be needing the tops as future clones, considering I have no room for a mother plant after the first grow starts. after a couple grows this will not be a problem, I plan on buying another, smaller tent eventually.

2) Since I will be topping my plants What size pots should I use, 6" or 8"? I was thinking 8" since there will be more side branches but just need a bit of reassurance.

3) What do you think of the setup? and what do you think my max yield could look like? I've never used a 600 watt light, but am shooting for .7 g's per watt.

Big bud tops fine. I would look for a cross with Big Bud however because it really doesn't pack a punch. There are some good AK 47 bb crosses. I would use at least 3.5 gallon buckets if you are only growing 3 plants in there for more root room. you have the height. As soon as you can separate your light cooling loop and you ventilation loop. That way your light fan can come one with the light and it stays on cooling the light the entire time it is on. If it is connected to your climate controller it can turn off your light cooling and you will burn the tops of your plants.I have done this. separating them will keep your climate much more manageable and will also benefit you if you end up using co2. As far as harvesting totals. Never count your chickens before they hatch. There are so many things that can affect yield. Nutes, humidity, pH problems, Mold, Bugs, Bad pruning or topping. Good pruning or topping. Just be happy in the fact that you are smoking your own weed that you grew with love and care and you did not have to give any money to a greedy douche nozzle.

Your right about that, I have given WAY too much money to them over the last couple years! As to my pot size, you are right about 3 gallons, they will be used for starting my original mother plants (thus only 3 plants). I was referring to when I set my hydro setup (4 - 6 weeks after mothers were started) using a 2' x 4' grow tray ebb & flow, since I will be topping each group of clones once they are big enough (and reusing the tops as new clones) what size pot should I use, 28 - 6" pots or 15 - 8" pots? reason I ask is I have never topped a plant before and am not sure how much branching will take place, which will affect my choice of pot size. As to the ventilation I see your point, What is the smallest fan you would cool a room this size with? Not going to have much $$ leftover after this setup.
