new pistils at the end of 12/12,,, WHY??? +rep.

i am nearing the end of 12/12

strain=bigbud/northenlights

my question is the bud has changed shape as the cylaxes have swollen so much, 70% of pistils r brown but suddenly i have had a spurt of new growth, being new pistils.
just wondering why the plant does this, is it a last ditch effort for the plant to be able to catch male pollen as it knows its coming to the end of its cycle??? :weed:

to my knowledge bro, they have a massive spurt at the end, they should eat up all the fan leaves and produce a last amount of bud, growing all the time, you get new buds constantly,so youll never have the whole plant at the same maturity

its really just to piss us all off ... that's why the plants do it .... hahahahaha! yea, really I dunno. My girl is doing the same. I remember some other growers talking about it a while back too .... and the outcome from that discussion was that you make a decision to finally cut whenever you wish to cuz, seemingly it can go on for a long time ... good luck man! Walk On!!~~~~

hey man thanks good to hear .... are u aware of it being anyhow a strain thing or pretty much across the board?

its not new buds at all, its new growth on existing buds, the buds were looking very near done then over night there was a spurt of new pistils, mad or what!!!!!!!!!

i think its the plant putting out new fresh sticky pistils in a last ditch effort to catch pollen, thats my thaughts on the matter!!!!

plus buds do realy swell in the last week or so dont they, they even change shape with the cylaxes swelling, i cant wait to see wot they look like on my harvest day, (il post pics for ya all)

the buds are literaly growing more visibly every day.

Exactly.
The plant is making one last ditch effort to get pollinated. Now, that said; watch the plant closely because it may pop out some pollen sacs also and do the job itself.

It's normal for Buds to grow in spurts - especially sativas. This is why you have to go by the trichomes when looking at ripeness.

northenlights is a indica!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i aslo do know about checking tricks, i have a fiew grows under my belt, just wondering what others thaught on the matter so late in flowering, thanx for ur input. bb x nl

I didn't say only sativa, it's just more common for sativa to go on flowering for a long time.

The determining factor in ripeness is trichomes. Hoe can growers not know this? This is where THC is forming! this is the whole reason for growing!

If the trichs aren't ripe, there's a good chance the buds are going to continue growing. Get a pocket microscope for $10 at radio shack,m and read up

Here's a roll it up thread every grower should read Everyone should know about Trichomes
