Hello, I'm a new member long time reader here at RIU. I have 2-1/2 grows under the belt (thanks to RIU) in peat/coir mix a few in DWC. I stopped for a few years, now a friend asked for help and I agreed. I am helping him with an organic throw down.
Organic soil is a first for me and have to lock in the environment, I can't constantly manage the environment myself and depend on teaching him as I (re)learn myself. Let me start by what we have.
New stock:
FF Ocean Forest 3 qu/ft
Perlite .......... 4qu/ft bag
Vermiculite ... 4qu/ft bag
Jamaican ..... 1-10-1 Guano
Peruvian ...... 12-11-2 Guano
Mexican ....... 10-1-1 Guano
EWC ............ 1-0-0
Algamin Kelp Meal 1-0-2
Pots ............... 5"x5" square (in use)
-*Pots ............... 12"x12" square 4.75gal (not in use)
Tent ............... 4'x2'x4' (in use)
-*Tent ............... 4.5'x4.5'x6' (not in use)
T12 ...10,000L...4' - 2 bulbs (in use)
-*600w dig HPS 6" cooled (not in use)
Soil mix:
44% Ocean Forest, 44% Perlite, 9% Vermiculite, 2% EWC. I didn't moisten long at all before planting, bad for undeveloped soil web? Would a EWC tea soak time kick start the web?
I added the perlite for air, verm for water retention, and EWC for some humates. Is this a bunk mix? Should I have let the soil be damp for a few days to build the soil web before planting? I'm not sure if the lack of culture led to low nute. uptake at first.
Story:
The plants (5) looked like they needed some TLC after a little while of growing in the soil. Yellow leafs like lack of N. and/or iron def. (maybe ph spotting) Working from low fan leafs outside yellowing/pale green on top face of leafs, I'm not quite sure.
Feeding:
I am following "Recipe #3", I need to buy molasses (I do it without the liquid karma, is that horrible?)
Recipe#3 for Veg. for 1 gal of water
1Tbl Mexican 10-1-1
1Tbl Peruvian 12-11-2
1Tbl EWC 1-0-0
1tsp Kelp Meal 1-0-2
Need molasses
Is this a 24-12-5 mix?
It bubbles for 2-3 days and the PH is always high around 8 (bc of no molasses??). I bring it down to ~6.8, is it bad i adjust it? I'll be getting some organic ph down as i learned reg. ph down is not good. My soil run off after a 6.8ph run was 6.4-6.6ph range for all the plants. I used the ph pen. Are TDS readings usable in organics? Is the soil ph to low? How long can the tea bubble for and be okay to use?
Cuttings: (Skip-able)
I took cuttings 6 days ago before the N? / Iron? / or 'hot' soil? issue got up to the healthy growing tops, and also before the first feeding of tea in case i fudged it real bad (I did end up diluting the first feeding 50/50 out of fear of not knowing the first issue, playing it safe). 4/5 plants were good to clone and 4/4 are still doing good 6 days out.
Since the cuttings a separate issue with light bleaching from the t12 my friend set to close (I also didn't think it was possible) he had it about 3-5" from the top and now 4/5 plants new growth are all light pale green in a light output pattern (otherwise healthy growth) the old fan leafs show signs of curling, browning tips, and what looks like ph whack spots. Photos in a ~weekish if they aren't too embarrassing. Kind of makes me sad. They are about 12"-15" high, struggling (but holding out).

Goal:
Is to not have to ph adjust anything (just spot check w/ph paper), give water and feed tea once every 1.5-2 weeks. Is that doable with what we have going on?
Questions:
Is my soil mix good, should I add anything to the soil for good ph buffers taking in to account the ph range of the fluids (h2o ~7.7ph - guano ~8ph) (soil ph ~6.5 with treated waterings). Would it be of benefit to let the soil mix be damp with water or some EWC tea mix to start the web off for a week or so? Should I be worried about lock out of the ~7ph nutes or any with soil run off of 6.4-6.5?? How long can the tea mixs bubble for? I think I found out I can burn the plants with this guano mix, could it be that that the soil web was not built up strong yet and the roots couldn't do their ionic dance effectively?
