New lightning

I am almost getting a little dizzy of all these different recommendations haha but thank you, I appreciate your answer! I remember researching about that type and I agree they are very cheap and seem effective. Do you recommend CDM's because of their cheap prices and effectiveness or in general? Are you using this type of lightning?

Has anyone tried the Phillips ceramic metal halide? I've seen some things comparing to the older mh
860W CDM is the same tech. The main difference between 860W and 315W CMH lamps other than wattage is that the smaller ones are driven by a special digital square wave ballast, making the smaller ones more efficient... AND substantially more expensive.

The 860W CDM lamps run on the standard old school thousand watt magnetic ballast- only. Cheap!

The 860W CDM must be operated vertically, as well. I believe the 315W CMH is universal mount.

Both bulbs are open fixture rated, so run 'em bare!

I personally use the 860W CDM bulb and I'm very pleased with it. I wish there was a sexy square wave ballast for it, but there isn't. The company that tried to market one went out of business.

Sounds great if u have a 1k mag ballast already, and plan to grow vert......

But otherwise, yea I think mh/hps is better for your standard horizontal home grower....

Veg light, flower light, and never any games of "My 'grow light' burned out, better replace it with the one from my desk lamp" (CFL's are for people who want to torture the plant n see if it survives.... like feeding nothing but bread and water to a human their whole life) LED's have a very limited field of 'good' ones, usually the DIY ones....

Dont buy the small light, and the cheaper version, and cut corners... YOU WILL REGRET IT.... I can post you a pic of all my old garbage gear, from doing just that...

You will end up with good gear if you are serious.... so skip straight to that point. It saves a lot of time, money, and space... Wing reflectors, crappy fans, swamp cooler buckets, all beginner garbage...

If you are gonna grow serious, start serious, even if it means starting later. Put the baby bulbs back into the bedside lamp, sell your LED to a fool, and buy some grow lights.... the kind that are tried and true for DECADES of growing success.... (and if you go big with a 1000w by all means get the mag ballast not the digi, so u CAN use the CDM bulbs if u choose....)

Yeah I see what you mean. I am really limited on money and can't afford any good setup at the moment. Though in the future I will invest more on the whole setup, especially lightning. I will post some pictures in late flowering and we will see what awaits me

Happy growing Flagg!

Then if you're on a tight budget, take my advice, get a $75 magnetic ballast and an 860W CDM and a $30 vertical socket cordset and grow vertically around it. You think I do it because it costs more or yields less?!

Sounds quite cheap, I'll check it out.
