New led build need help

I'm in the process of building a new grow room vertical style sealed with co2.

I am planning on changing over to cree cxb3590s but could use help trying to plan the best current to drive them at to get high enough par for a co2 grow.


I will have 9 Rows of 4 plants vertical on each side of the rectangular room with heat sinks mounted vertically with 1 plant per sq foot and 1 cob per sq foot.

The plants will grow to a max of 60cm tall and the left over space between canopy and cobs will be max 14 inches due to space limitations.


Co2 will be used up to 1500 ppm I can run to 2000ppm if it will benefit but doubt it will.

My main concern is bleaching the tips of the plants due to distance from the bulbs.

I was planning on driving the cobs at 2.1a and also having a couple of 3w royal blues and 680nm reds around the cobs to supplement but I could use peoples experiences with distances from canopy and bleaching.

How much par would the canopy of my plants be getting with this setup and should I be using 90 degree lenses or no lenses at all?

Or if anyone knows a better cob choice that would be great. I've been reading up on diy leds for a good few weeks now.

As far as I understand it the cree cxb3590 is the best currently? But if not I could use the advice

Last year they were. I like citizen v6 1212s better now and they are half the price. Dont bother supplementing, especially blue, I can see some argument for supplementing reds but I overcome that by using 3000k cri90 cobs. Check out cobkits.com, they have hlg 185 drivers that can push 1812 cobs (50v) putting out nearly 220w/driver at a good price.

Im not sure about the exact details but the citi's handle power better than cree does, so you arent forced to push them very soft to keep efficiency high. Someone that knows the numbers better will probably chime in for you but more people are building with citi and probably even veros than with cree lately it seems.

What about my situation of distance from canopy?

I would like to run them at 12 inch and still get good penetration to 2 ft down without bleaching.

How far do you run yours from canopy?

Crees are older tech.. Paying for the name. Citileds or veros... Period... Unless you just want to say u have crees... Choice is yours buddy

Due to where i am from my only supplier option is kingbrrite... doesn't look like he sells 90 Cri versions of citizen

I could use some detailed recommendations with stats

Like I say I plan on running atleast 1 cob per square foot. 72 cobs in flower tent for 72sqft of canopy space.

How many ppfd would these citizens give me at 12 cm from canopy at efficienct current?

Since you have a height restriction I would look into the quantum boards even the citizen and luminus are more efficient and cheaper than the crees

If you used citizen 1818 and had 70 of them in there and drove them at 1.4A your ppdf would be 1515

Edit= if you dirve them at 2.1A 65 would be ppfd of 1523

I would drive the 3590 at 1400ma which is 50w per sq ft which gives you a ppfd between 750-850 great place to be. Drive them softer not harder more lumens less heat most efficient

According to the calculator I found the Citi 1825 at 1.4a runs at 1608 ppfd but is that ppfd based at the tip of the cob or 12 inches away?

As that ppfd would be what I need but I need it to be 12 inches away from canopy

If the citizen 1825 can produce 1605 ppfd at13 inches that would be exactly what I need but I can't find any ppfd calculations that include distance. Surely distance is a factor that should be included?
