just saw a commercial on tv for a "new ionic bulb" according to the ad it purifies the air with a built in ionizer. this might be...revolutionairy to indoor growing imo. not as main lighting as im sure theyre not the correct wattage or temperature. but the ionizer would be amazing for removing air, anyone have any experience on this?

I went to the website and I find it very hard to believe that they can eliminate: dust, dander and pollen. Maybe, they can sterilize these substances. They probably can neutralize odors and smoke. But, there are many factors that must be taken into consideration and they are not addressed here.

Certain UV light waves can sterilize surfaces and not hurt tissue. But, they can blind you, so much care must be used with them and I'm sure that most avid growers are already aware of this. In the industry I work in UV is becoming a moving force and quite an industry changer. But, as more studies and white papers are released and I receive them I will keep you updated.

If they could 'deactivate' pollen then I would be all over it. Imagine not having to remove the males! But, I'll believe that after a few trustworthy growers tell me so.

Mind telling mewhat industry this is, and why UV lights are having such an impact on it?

I doubt that bulb will work on anything like a kush, skunk, diesel...ect

also, why spend the extra $$ on bulbs like that when you can just buy regular cfl's @ a fraction of the cost and some ona, homemade scrubber, or a small ozone generator that WILL work on plants like that.

Careful .... could be " One of the tripple alphabet agencys " targeting growers and blinding us all :) ... they know we will try anything and everything lol

Joking aside ...Wonder how long it will be befor we get somone trying this ...i would love to hear/ see the results ... seems too good to be true that it would be effective ...for our needs :)

I specialize in biotech medical devices, environmental and facility equipment.

They are now working on uv lights to disinfect medical workers hands between patients so not to cross-contaminate and it works.

What I should have told everyone was that ultraviolet light will disinfect their pots for up to 2 years between uses, when treated properly. I want to make this clear, you must disinfect between each use. Which means that germs/bacteria/microbes from one batch will not be carried over the next by contaminated pots. You can disinfect your tools, etc.

Just remember you can blind yourself, never and I mean never look at the light or its reflection. Always err on the side of caution. Put your equipment into a light tight container, close and secure it, then turn on the light for a short period of time and presto! Disinfected equipment.

And, it will disinfect water, too. I am not a microbiologist and I am not a PhD so with that being said, in a thumb nail sketch this is how it works. UV disinfection of bacteria causes damage to the cells. The damaged cells are then unable to replicate, and without replication they can not infect. If there is a microbiologist onboard maybe they can explain exactly the how and the why.

The wavelength that they disinfect water with is about 85% in the 253.7 nm, which falls in the optimal range of germicidal activity.

I do not believe I would use in on my soil since it will kill the good with the bad and there is tons of good stuff there, plus it would be hard to do. If there is any beneficial organisms in the water they will be killed off too, but I'm not sure there is any that I would worry about (I guess, now I'm going to have read up on this). So if there is any beneficial bacteria in your water you will have toasted them.

Hope that helps explain some. I'm working with some UV equipment right now, once I get a male I'll give it a try. My little ones are about 3 weeks away from sexing, so I'll let you know how uv disinfection works on males-I doubt it will have any effect on them.

Is there anyone out there willing to try the ionic lights on males?

silask that light looks interesting i wonder where light is measured at i rereread article and it did not say if 2700 or 6500 soft or hard light
i stll say it looks interesting and to the nay sayers nothing works on that serrious dank ass skunkass shit even a carbon scrubber you will still get faint wiffs and you must use with something else my point that bulb could be used wth a few bulbs and something els cant do job by itself
maybe for something else even like stanky bathroom near a pet or say 4 in your grow room with a carbon filter that is to small for the area you feel me

its a full spectrum CFL.... with a little "ionizer" in the center?!!? am i getting this right? that the CFL lightbulb itselft is no different than any other full spect cfl bulb and that the ionizer is a separate part of it.

I have 4 bulbs in my room and when I do some smoking in there, I turn my bulbs...smell and smoke are gone fast. Helps my room stay clean and fresh. It does eliminate dander, dust, etc. If you think it is too good to be true...buy some and test them out. Remember they work best within 100 sq ft of where the bulb is.

Cheers.

This is def. a bulb for what we do.

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Air ionizers produce ozone which can be toxic to plants. Just rig up a DIY carbon scrubber outta some axial (PC) fans, duct, some activated carbon, and a computer PSU.

Hello folks. Just had to respond to the guy that said that these bulbs give out a harmful ozone for the plants. That is exactly what is different with these bulbs...it specifically says it gives no ozone. Check it out for yourselves....and do your own research.

Happy growing and eliminating odors with these bulbs.
