New Homemade Aero Cloner

What temps is the water?
Nice DIY cloner. I too have gone the aero method and have had great success. Now that it's summer it's a little tougher to get things working without a little manual labour.
The res in my cloner needs frozen water bottles to keep it below 75. I also have had to add a dome because of low humidity.
The aero cloner I made was a part of the Stinkbud aero system. Check out www.stinkbuddies.com

Actually, the temps are almost certainly too high, felt like bathwater. Still worked. It's really warm in my area. Cooling seemed too complex for my DIY DWC. So, frozen bottles?

Super log jam going on because these are pretty big but Blue Cheese not ready to clip for cloning the next gen. I think I can fit both these mothers and my cloner in the tent at the same time, but I don't know. Nirvana Wonder Woman on the right is blowing up, as you can see. Those are going to be huge no matter how I try to tame them in the flowering room. Screw it, I'm going to go as big as possible this time around.

nice cloner, there really takeing off...i bought a 60 site EZCLONER. and that pump heats the fuck out of the water (90F+) but i still got roots to pop in about 5 days..a other grower said with the right temp u can clone crazy fast (they pop in 3-4 days)..as soon as i saw lil roots pop i put in a lil cannas rizatonic and man the roots are takeing off now..will be checking out ur grow fo sho..meangreen

Denny and MeanGreen,

I have built an aerocloner pretty much the same as yours, but it is a 20 site. I am having success, but it is taking 10 days or so to get roots. Are you both using Hygrozyme in your solution? ANy other Nutes? My temps are roughtly 80 deg. 3-5 days would be awesome to achieve!

I'm using Hygrozyme and pHing the water only. I have a Reverse Osmosis unit, but otherwise, it's a pretty plain solution. I've never measured my water temps, but I can assure you they're way over what any expert would call optimal or even normal. My room has been around a constant 81-83 degrees this Summer, unfortunately. What goes into a water cooling until? Expensive, right? And, in the Winter, I struggle to keep things warm enough to work.

Thanks everyone for following this one. I guess I'll move this to a grow or new cloning journal now after pulling the trigger on taking cuttings from the 2x Blue Cheese and 2x Wonder Woman mothers I grew from clone in my homemade cloner (see previous entries)?? I'm really not sure what I'll do at this point.

Here's two pics of the much smaller clones I took than last time. In fact, the Wonder Woman plants were big enough so I could have left those 4 clips much taller -- I didn't for experiment's sake. It's hot in that room. So, if this works this time around with the res temps really high, I'll know my design is pretty good.

If enough of your are interested, I'll keep filling you in on the yield, flowering, etc. – maybe have a proper grow journal.

The original genetics are turning out really good for the Barney's Blue Cheese, and so far, just good for the Nirvana Wonder Woman... but I also have another strain clogging up the works (GSC Big Bang), so we'll know a lot more the next time around when just the BC and WW are rockin'.

i used less then 1/4 stgth oliva's clone solution, the gel came right off..then when i saw the roots start to pop i put a lil cannas rizatonic just to see what happens (seems to work well)...yeah denny a water chiller cost about $300 + bucks, and uses about 300watts of power...sorry if im hijacking man....u should make a journal fo sho i whould like to see how the grow comes outs...meangreen

great job, denny! i've been anxious to try one of these kinda cloners myself.

if you don't mind......i have a couple of questions that i didn't see in the thread
  1. what size rubbermaid are you using for the aerocloner?
  2. what water level do you maintain in the aerocloner since the misters are spraying the cuttings?

thanks for all the info!

Thanks for checking in, brotha. The Rubbermaid is the 14 gallon variety (but I'm pretty sure they only make 18 gallon in this size range anymore) -- and make sure you get the darkest/most-opaque one you can find. Light on roots is your enemy.

And I've run about 4.5 gallons of water in there. I'm not sure water level matters in the res -- just needs to keep the pump submerged.

No worries meangreen, learning everything we can is the name of the game here. Rep up for you!

Great journal +rep. Did you DIY your veg DWC system?? If so, can you give some more details on your set up? I am interested in making a veg and flower DWC!

made the same style of cloner long time ago 2 years maybe with holes small ones without the neoprene and a long airstone . works like charm :)

also my ebb flow system made by me :-P

Yeah, my DWCs are also homemade and are pretty basic. Medium sized (14-18 gallon) Rubbermaid totes with 5" or 6" net pots, filled with hydroton (or other clay pebble medium) and aerated by two 12" airstones, power by a single (double output) air pump. I also use 4 to 5 gallons in the tub.

You just trace the netpots on top of the Rubbermaid lid, make em a little smaller, and cut them out with a steady hand and a utility knife.
