New Grower, First Grow...

Hey guys. Did a search, maybe Im blind, I never was good with this forum thing.

Anywho. I had a buddy help me set up my first grow. He gave me some seeds, kush i think, and 2 clones.

I have set up, a 30" X 30" X 4ft. tall box. Painted flat white inside, a 100 watt NMH light on a 18 - 6 timer. 2 small fans blowing on the clones, and a bathroom fan with a carbon filter on the end.

The clones were freshly clipped when given to me so therefore they have not rooted yet. Im worried because my box is in my shed and its cold out (5-10 degrees celcius) when the lights arent on. Its about 10-16 degrees in there when the lights are on for a bit. The reason Im worried is because the plants are droopy. the stalks are strong but the leaves are drooping down. my buddy says this is normal until they root. Any ideas would be appreciated. I will post pics later tonight.

Another question I have here is I have a seed that germinated and Im wondering when its ok to put it under the lights. I have pics of it.

Thanks guys, and ill keep posting pics. Oh and I will have pics of my grow box later. Gotta go to work for now! Pce :weed:

You need to get the temps up in your box. At the very least, leave the light on constantly, and even then 10-16 degrees isn't enough. Aim for low 20s if possible.

And as for the seedling, put it under light straight away.

looks like everything should be fine as long as you can get the temp up a bit.. although IMO they will still do fine just will take alot longer with it cool as it is now. and i have always put my babies under light as soon as i can knock the seed shell off the seed leaves. *i wouldnt put a newborn right under that high power light at first, maybe just a couple cfls till it gets situated?

what is your humidity? it needs to be at the very minimum 80% for cloning and also 18 hrs of light is way to much for cloning theres many differant beliefs about this but i have had the best luck w/clones and seedlings at 14/10 remember roots grow at night goodluck

I clone under 24/0 or 20/4, and have had a high success rate, based on a large number of clones. Roots grow all the time, not just at night.

EDIT: Just saw the pics. Get them under a humidity dome straight away.

I had my clones @ 18/6 & My smallest (@ 3 weeks of flower is 12", my largest 21", and all VERY HEALTHY). So, that worked for me.
Also, you need to get some more light in there.

huh , see ya learn something every day but i think we can both agree those clones are suffering from more than just temperature theres all kinds of "experts" here i was simply saying what has worked best for me and i think that the experts will all agree that 24/0 is too much light for any situation

I may not be an expert by some standards, but I am pretty experienced, and have taken a large number of clones successfully. I think 24/0 would be ideal for this situation, at least until a heater is installed in the grow area. It won't do any harm at all.

im no expert either but i do know this that guy needs to get his temp and humidity under control and we can ask a expert about too much light stress

Agreed on the temp and humidity thing. I am as certain as I can be on the light thing though. 20/4 or 18/6 would be slightly better, but 24/0 will not cause any harm at all, and in this case will help stabilize temps a bit. I have taken lots of clones under 24/0 (hundreds easily), so I am not just guessing here.

he is right. its perfect for the situation. especially since its waaay too cold in the grow area. its not safe to drop below 60 degrees.. plants will have super slow growth or die if it gets too cold. they can handle the light. dont worry. try and warm it up as mush as possible. if you dont feel comfortable blasting the clones back to life with 24/0 just go with 20/4. also, i have no idea where you are or what kind of materials are available to you. but it would probably do you well to get a few space blankets for the box. it'll increase reflectivity, and holds 90% heat in. so that would definitely help. cheers:leaf:

thats cool like i said i have had the best luck w/14/10 for some reason and thats not just on cannibus that goes for all seedlings and clones i do my clones under 4 t12 and also use a humidity dome for 72 hrs and my rooting cells sit on a bed of perlite

Far from an expert here!!! But I totally agree!

bottomline is this, light is not there to be a source of heat and 24 hrs of light is too much under any circumstance so believe what you want!

Yea them clones are gettin way to much light there just gonna die off without forming some good roots. The roots for at night while in darkness id use like a 14 / 10 lighting on the clones.

You both have like one grow's worth of experience. How many clones have you taken, exactly?

The problem with this forum is that too many people, with little or no experience, feel that what they believe is gospel, and everyone else is wrong, despite the fact that some of us have plenty of real world experience.

Personally, I don't care what you do with your clones. I have given my advice, and it is up to anyone reading this to decide whether I know what I am talking about. Either way, I don't care. It's your clones, not mine. I just try to help people who want to be helped, and do so to the best of my ability, without perpetuating bullshit and misinformation.
