new grow setup - what does it take

Hi everybody

I'm interested in starting growing. I'm looking for recommendations for a newbie setup, probably a 400W soil system.

I'd like to harvest about 5-6 oz/ 90 day harvest. I'd like have a simple system that produces good quality bud.

I have 400-500 bucks to spend on a complete system. Are my expectations realistic considering my budget?

Thanks,
Steve

First off lets narrow the field down. What do you have for a grow room set up? Dimensions. Are you growing in a home? Is it yours? Do you have to keep the grow hidden? How do you plan on setting it up?

um if you wants 5-6 oz i believe you'll need 10-12 plants and 400w wont be enought for that many plants. start small with one or two plants and go from there. 400 watt would be good for 2 plants.

If you plan on expanding don't waste your money on a 400 watt light. Go for the biggie. That is if you are planning on expanding anyway.

Sorry - not enough info.

Mogie - The grow will be in my house that I own. I have 400 sq ft heated room in the basement for growing that is only used for storage. I live in the country, so stealth shouldn't be a huge problem, but I don't want my whole house smell like pot.

A few years ago, I did my first grow(started with 11, ended up with 7 girls) under a 400 watt hps. My friend who'd been using a 1000 watter for years was genuinely shocked when he came over and saw what I had growing. I never actually weighed the end product, but it was definitely more than 5-6 ounces. Unfortunately I had to close up shop after 1 run, the light is in a friend's storage, and I'm starting back up with CFLs for now.

But by the sounds of it, this guy has room for a small jungle in his basement.
