New French Leader

At least the Franco-German combined domination of the EU will be shaken up now, seems Hollandaise (like the sauce perhaps?) isn't into fingering Merkel like Sarkozy was.

In Ireland "gas" is €1.69 per litre (gallon is approximately 4.5 litres). About 95c of that is tax.

Europe sadly already has socialism or countries running socialist programmes, so it won't be much of a change except on the diplomatic front cos France will be less likely to jump into bed with Germany.

3.8L=gallon that would make the gas €1.58 per L in France if WW is correct

15%

Hmm My gas would only be €0.80L >> i knew US oil was cheaper but now i wont complain if it goes up a bit

everything is europe is way more expensive, in 2010 when I vacationed it was about 2x as much for anything not just gas

Right now gas is about $8 a gallon in France. How much will gas cost in 6 months or a year?
Europeans have cars(non electric) that get 80MPG though, something we don't have. Government would never allow cars with that kind of efficiency here, where would they get the taxes to fund the roads if cars were that miserly with fuel?

It's a true story, cars are more efficient here, you should look at Fords new international concept Focus...it's the same model in Europe and the US.

I think the main difference is we consider a 2L engine quite big, and you guys seem to consider it a minimum ;)

please tell me you did not just call a 2L engine "quite big". please. that's a nice 1992 toyota corrolla, which is great, but by no means "quite big".

Engine size in the UK goes hand in hand with fuel prices. Most people run around in 1.6L cars, it is just not economical to have anything larger unless you've no care about money. Just looked at the pump prices ad the cheapest around me is £1.36/L for petrol or £1.43/L for diesel. And while we have more economical vehicles, seems 1 in a million actually understand how to drive in a conservative manner.

They are talking about taxing us by the miles we drive. 80 mpg? besides myself and my husband can I still carry more than 2 bags of groceries? I think not.

1. while working as a bag boy years ago (while economy wasn't this bad - i could fit $500 worth of groceries (4 carts worth) into a corvette coupe. solely in the "trunk space"
so dont tell me that their small cars cant fit your groceries.

2. cars ought to have about 200 mpg if not more if inefficiency for more consumption wasn't the game from big auto and big oil.

i would cite Gashole as a must watch.

but we have no entrepeneurs anymore.. we let the big car companies rape us.

we let them loan us cars!

instead of making them slash prices so that we can once again afford them.

Yeah cos none of us here in Europe can carry our groceries and family at the same time, we have to choose one or the other...lol. Don't be so silly, American cars are just obnoxious, loud and inefficient (albeit extremely fun) but definately not practical.

Iv always wondered if people who drive big "trucks" are trying to compensate for having a tiny little penis.

Try pulling a boat without one of them big "trucks".
Or a camper, snowmobile, atv, etc...

Haha, that's a pretty silly thing to think :D In the past i have had occasion to take a 42" tv home from the shop with 10 bags of shopping ontop of it without a problem. We're not talking about driving around in Peel P50's

The rest of the world has jeeps for pulling things too, the likes of a Ford F550 is good if that's your personal preference, but it's not necessary, and moaning about the price of gas when you've chosen to drive a big "Penile Compensator" like that is just a girl-like way to cry about the world.

I though this was about the new french president ?!!

i have been following this elections very closely (even watched the 4 hours live debate between hollande and sarkozy) last sign of socialism in the presidency was over 20 years ago, and things seemed more chill, hopefully it will be the time around too, the guy is very likable, and if anything will better things up. the one thing i'm gonna miss about the hungarian emigrant is hot wife Carla Bruni

now speaking of cars ....:-P
I spent a little over a year in the US back in 2010 the one thing mostly noticed of the time was the ridiculously enormous size of cars, its just weird, I mean maybe americans dont notice it , but the average size of vehicles elsewhere in the world is at least smaller by a third if not half, especially trucks (volume-wise). I found it ironic to see all those american american chicks, the petite ones just like the most obese loved to drive high huge ass 4x4, at first I was assuming this was a vestige from the ancient generations of cars but concluded that vanity MUST have little to do with it, americans love cars, and likes em damn big and heavy. also no offense but I saw mentions of Ford and such on this thread, ford and GM are the worst car makers that ever existed they might've come up with the way to make car assembly efficient but are absolute crooks when it come to cars these day, the designs are super blunt and all the interiors are scenes of grotesque and clunky plastic fixture with an intense made in china feeling to 'em, I was sooo dissapointed when I looked at the interiors of the most notorious american cars, like the Dodges, and others, and the Mustang's rather good looking exterior feels like a vicious lure once you sit inside it ! and btw why do americans need big engines on their cars ? I mean what for really ? you cant go fast in that country, you get away with it on the highway, buy cant get used to it (americans would know what i mean by that)....i

ps: I just realized this text evolved from a quick pressing of opinion to a rant
