Was checking out their website and came across this new product they now have, looks like a nice upgrade from the 4-up board they offer.


This simple to use, plug and play two-channel photo and far red board is designed to help increase plant metabolism (yields) via the Emerson Effect. In addition, if you have a controller you can keep the far red lights on for an additional 15 minutes after lights out for flower initiation. Running without a controller will turn on all the lights at 100% intensity

The board comes with 12 x XP-E HE Photo Red and 6 x XP-E Far Red LEDs, 2 x Mean Well LDD-700LS drivers, a WAGO connector for dimming and a DC barrel connector for easy, solderless power

Doesn't require a separate heatsink though we recommend using one to provide support/rigidity to the strip

If you are using your own power supply you will need to supply between 28-36VDC constant voltage, and a minimum of 30W per board

Please forgive my ignorance. What is a controller in this instance? I checked their site and I don't see a product called a controller.

You got it.
I thought about a simple relay board, arduino (with sensors) and a raspberry pi with a server. Controlling everything through a web interface from pc or spartphone suits me. Atm I have no time to get into libraries to code and php interface.
I lost a grow cause my mechanical timer failed and stopped my extractor .

from the looks of the pic the LDD drivers are wired directly into the strip. you would have to undo their connections and install a power adapter going to each ldd driver.
Oh well I was not talking specifically for that. Just something like a smart outlet for many devices. Even a pwm controller

Nice idea, but it has a few disadvantages.
- The required constant voltage of 28-36vdc usually requires its own driver (except for some 36vdc parallel circuits).
- Two drivers to generate a constant current is inefficient and expensive (even with 94% mw drivers only 90%).
- Too expensive, I pay $1.99 for an XP-EHE photored diode (C01 bin) and $2.10 for a far-red diode and the LDD's can one get for under $8 and I'm pretty sure rapidled will definitely get better prices than me.

Maybe they decide to release such a 2-channel strip without LDD's for 50-60$.
The LDDs are often used in aquarium lights but they are less useful for horticultural applications. I also do not think these Emerson Boosters are really useful for aquariums, lol. For horticulture they should run with constant current, only my 2ct's. It does not help if you use the best diodes on one side and than waste 4 or 5% effiency by the energy conversion on the other side.
