well i made a new cfl setup for my veg room. found this idea from this thread
https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/478680-cfl-light-fixture-plans.html#post6495651

so i made it. thanks dogwap for the thread. i used 12 23watt cfls at 1600 lumen 2700k. then i added 4 13watt 900 lumen 2700k to the mix also. so a total of 16 cfl bulbs. all on a level height adjustable system of rigged string and spring clamps lol. now i just gotta wait for my next seeds to pop up, which should be tomorrow. well heres the pics of my saturday project. oh and total cost for me from lowes, home depot, and walmart totaled to be $113.43

Keeping the karma on an even keel.

I am after faster growth due to some miscalculations in the budroom. This morning four of the 6500K tubes got swapped for red aquarium grow tubes (620-670 nm). If the light is dim the plant will stretch, color won't matter.
But anyway, the roots are getting a stronger grow signal with the red, so is the stem and leaves, but will lots of light the roots get a bigger share. The plant is ready for the budroom sooner. Usually the budroom is full and I want slower growth in veg, the norm is blue only for that.

The plant is a weed, it will grow.

Actually you want both spectrums for veg and flower. during veg blue will make it stretch and red makes stay short and bushy. In flower the opposite.. You want high spikes of red and blue and a little yellow and green for optimum growth. I do everything with t 5's with aquarium coral reef bulbs, but I have cfls over my moms. 2 clamp lights with 2 bulbs in each. 27 watt daylight ( 5000 k) and soft white (2700 k) in each.

Here are some articles from scientists at Oxford University about how light works

i vegged my last bunch under 2700k and they are crazy little bushes
Awesome, I've been thinking about swapping out some of my daylight cfls for the 2700's. I use 16 bulbs for veg as well, but I'll try 4x 2700's in my mix and see how it goes. I checked out your grow journal, nice work!!! +rep

The most basic rule of thumb i was taught is 65k stimulates the plants growth but up and down, by that i mean that both foliar grown and root developement. And 27k will naturally have a stretching affect on the plant so that it can basically make room for buds. I'm not saying this is the "Almighty" rule but the science supports it. My neighbor last yr grew some bag seed with a 300w halogen lamp and a 48" blacklight tube.

thanks for the kind words. our grows are actually extremely similar. both are rooms are right next to each other, cfls and hps, and just normal shit. +rep for tearin it up homemade!!!

yeaman, optimal setup AFIC. I like how you mixed it up with both, I've never been able to find those plug sockets locally or I'd have more bulbs... some dick ripped on my setup because I had to strip wires and build it instead of just plugging shit in, but there's way more satisfaction in building it yourself.

Happy growing!!! :leaf:
