any one have any experience with these systems? I was checking out ozone generators and stumbled across these things... am wondering how effective they are at stopping odors...

i use an ion generator.

I'm currently only running one plant but shes in full bloom about 6 weeks in and i can't smell anything up here. But that can be down to the strain. I must say after smoking and drinking and people smoking ciggarettes , it does clear up the air no doubt.

Don't get an ozone generator , bad for plants, toxic for you.

thanks for the quick reply, i am thinking of getting one of these when harvest time comes, as i live in a small appt and cant afford to have that sweet smell escape and... i was thinking that the neg ion thing would be a good idea since i am a smoker and a toker too. My main concern tho is the smell of the buds when i bring them in

Don't have the neg ion air cleaner blow on the plants, they can cause necrosis on the plants in close proximity.

I was doing an experimental grow and had used a Purelite 6400k CFL with a built in ion fountain in a CFL reflector that was close to the plants, it caused massive necrosis from excessive neg ions..

As far as never using ozone, well thats a crock of BS. Ozone can also cause necrosis as can neg ion fountains, but when used properly an ozone generator will remove organic odors and many inorganic odors better than ANYTHING on the market. Better than a sock, better than a carbon scrubber, and surely a hell of a lot better than an ionizer.
Key word above is when used properly. I use my ozone generator on conjunction with a neg ionizer, in conjunction with a carbon scrubber and as a last line of defense, a UVc rod in my A/C ducting

normally I run my ozone generator an adjacent room and not in the grow room itself, although I have before and had no issues.

The key is to use them on a timer, or via a three pronged appliance remote. Usually one only needs to run their ozone generator for a few minutes when the ventilation turns on, and maybe a few minutes every few hours. My Ozone machine also has independent controls so when Ozone is not needed, I run the machine just putting out neg ions with no 03 production.

I've tried most every air cleaner on the market, and anyone that says avoid Ozone, doesn't understand that ozone is the best method possible to eliminate organic odors. Yes they can be harmful if used improperly and can cause mucous membrane problems, but when used properly and not using it as a 24/7 air cleaner, there is nothing better. Many people buy these and turn them on full blast and run them 24/7, creating 500-2000mg/hr of ozone, the EPA safe limit is .05/mg/hr

These are not air cleaners per se, they are air sanitizers that have a benefit of removing all organic odors in the air. If run a few minutes every few hours, they are very effective. A lot more than an Ionizer. Don't get me wrong, Ioniers have their place in the grow world, but lets say someone stops by your house unexpected. If you need to clean the air very quick, you turn the ozone generator on full blast. The odors will go kapoot and nobody will smell the odor of a grow.

Carbon scrubbers and Ionizers cannot do the same. (Carbon scrubbers are a good thing to have though)

In thirty minutes the 03 reverts back to 02. But in every home that has a 03 generator, learn the dangers of it, and use it properly.

Natures air NA-2

Lots of idiots buy these for $399 and think they are an air cleaner, they then turn them on full blast and give their nose and mouth a nice ozone shock treatment, then leaving it on all night in close proximity, they either end up with a bloody nose the next morning and have it for sale on Ebay that day.

Be patient, keep an eye on the Ebay auctions and you'll get a steal. Paid $41 for my NA-2 and it was used maybe all of 1 day. I also bought an Alpine for $53, that one was brand new, it used a UV-c lamp to create ozone, the Natures Air uses ceramic/stainless plates via corona discharge. The Alpine is better because it too can run just neg ions, but it also has a prefilter. I gave the Alpine to a buddy as he restores cars, some of them stink....

They also make UV-c in-line ozone generators, but for the smaller growers like you and I, an in line is not warranted unless that's what you prefer. Usually the in line 03 generators are for large operations.

Both the Na-2 and the Alpine 03 gen are decent, just snag one that's 75% off the msrp buying it at Ebay.

ya, i went and splurged, got a ozone and ion generator with washable Hepa, UV-C germ light and Ti02 Catalyst Filter.. picked it up for $175, little overkill but i looked at the ones on e-bay, but almost all of them look like a piece of crap...

here are the specs of the model i got...

The comes on automatically as you turn the unit on. Negative ions can be created around the clock to keep down dust and particulate. The activated oxygen has a separate control. Activated oxygen is normally kept at modest levels in occupied spaces. To remove major odors, the unit may be adjusted to a higher level for a period of time. Some use a timer to completely deodorize the home or office while away. Unused O3 reverts back to O2 in about an hour.

The ultraviolet light generated by the UVC Germicidal Lamp is at a wavelength of 254 nanometers and its photons have the exact energy needed to destroy the DNA of all kinds of microorganisms, including bacteria, mold spores and viruses.

In fact, ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) with UVC was recently shown in a clinical trial to significantly reduce respiratory symptoms of office workers when installed in building ventilation systems.

Because UVC light kills by physical destruction of the DNA, germs cannot mutate to become resistant to ultraviolet light (as they can with antibacterial agents); UVC gets them every time!

Specs:

110V AC/60Hz operation, 11,300,000,000,000 ions generated per second (yes, 11.3 TRILLION!)

12-15 kv ion generator power supply

virtually silent 400 CFM 12 volt DC variable speed fan.

Dimensions: Height: 12.5 "; Width: 8.25" x 10.25"; Power: 44W; Weight 17 lbs.

Each unit is supplied with 2 removable ozone plates which require periodic cleaning.

Replacement parts are always available

Sounds like your model is either an Alpine or an Atlas, which I think is a rebranded Alpine.

Just use it properly and it will serve you well. If you later decide you want to control the 03 production via remote, maybe one of these will suit your needs. If you have a Logitech learning remote, you can program your Logitech TV audio/visual remote, to also control the ozone generator. If you buy a appliance remote, just be sure to buy one that has three prongs and is grounded via the 3rd ground wire. Because if you plug in a 03 generator into a two plug outlet, the fuse in the Alpine or Atlas will eventually blow.

You may also want to buy an extra fuse for less than a buck, in case it ever blows from power surges or what not.
