my temps stay around 75-80 and don't get anything. I hear coolers are great. FloGrow swears by them. What are the temps? When do you change the rez? God I hope it gets fixed quick. I'm feelin for you.

Algae does not directly attack the roots, but can cause multiple secondary problems. It can strangle the roots which encourages root rot and slows down growth. It can attract fungus gnats which will eventually lay eggs in the roots. It can eat your nutrients throwing off your PH and PPM. Most of all it indicates improper res conditions (namely light leaks) which will cause many problems besides algae.

My advice: observe proper res conditions immediately and sterilize with DM Zone, or inoculate with beneficial microbes.

the algae is feeding off the nutrients in the res and keeping the roots from getting any of them, cooler temps are a must, h2o2 can help not to get algae, but once you have it will feed off the h2o2 also, will lead to death of plants if ya cant get it under control very soon. rinse the roots in cool water , cut off any dead roots, sterilize your res, stones and air lines. Beneficial microbs will help, chlorine will also help, 1 tablespoon per gal per day until it is gone. If all else fail and they are likely to die, you can transplant them into dirt for a full recovery. Good luck.
