Ok my mom has stage 4 cancer, she is going to start chemotherapy real soon. I was thinking about making so canna-butter to make her some brownies to help keep stomach nausea down and increase her appetite. How must weed and how butter do I need for a small batch of brownies for a person that has never used cannabis before?

hey go to our cooking with cannabis section we have great tutorials and fantastic reads on this
but if youre going with someone whos never used cannabis before edibles are not the best option they can be REALLY REALLY potent, and often they make people have a different and more potent high than smoking

sorry to hear about your mom

How is it going to stay in her stomach, if she has nausea? Can she vape or dab? I have bouts of nausea too. If I catch it b4 the vomit, then I can eat a cheeba chew and avoid the whole thing. If I don't catch it in time, it comes up with the rest of the purge. I hit a joint three or four times and I can ride it out, but sometimes I end up in the hospital for dehydration.

For your question about how much, I would say as much as she can handle. Decarboxylate in the oven for twenty five minutes @ 250F. Boil it up in some butter and a little water, strain out the cannabis, refrigerate, pour out the gunky water and use the butter that is left, as you would in any recipe.

She is in her mid 70's and never believed in using weed so i would say no to vape or dab but what about tinctures

I have used tinctures and they are effective. Quicker than edibles. Sub-linguals are pretty quick too. The sub-linguals burn a little. I guess I've made tincture out of glycerin, but I have never just used it as a sub-lingual. RSO can be eaten, but it does flavor whatever you put it in. Just start out a little at a time. Be very careful, an overdose is a bad ride and can last hours. I took a half of a deca-dose cheeba chew and I was hurting for three hours. I have since, learned to titrate my medicine.

That's awful about your mother but great your getting ahead of the curve.

Warble has the right questions to spark the right ideas.

As Zofran's #1 consumer (oncology's best anti-nausea) I can attest to the difficulty of eating something when you feel nauseous. There are even times when smoking continually is the only thing that keeps me off the edge of keeling over.

Mom's definitely going to need something that does not take up more space then saliva. RSO is a great idea, smoking would be second best. Some education and discussion might be needed to get her on board.

Some things to consider, cancer feeds on certain sugar's. It's best not to make treats for your cannabis medicine.

You might also consider CBD oil in addition. Most flowers you will get will be low in CBD, Weedless makes a CBD oil from cold pressed hemp plants. It can be added to anything just keep temperature below 200f.

don't know what RSO is but i will google and research
RSO stands for Rick Simpson Oil.

He's one of the "pioneers" of cannabis concentrate for battling cancer.

He makes a oral oil that he says needs to be taken 1 gram a day for 3-6 months until cancer is gone then a small amount indefinitely.

He makes it with naptha, most people feel 190 proof everclear is suitable and more "food grade".

It's simply put a soak of the flowers and a cook off of the alcohol to produce a very intense oral oil.

This now takes you to the Concentrates and Extracts Section for more research.

Ok it looks maybe tincture might be the thing,I know she has taken a spoon full of moonshine cough syrup before.
To make tincture you pretty much put 1 gram of bud to 1 oz of PGA shake put in freezer, shake a two times a day for about a week, strain and bottle is that right?

Do you have to decarboxylate the weed?
I think you need to decarb.

Sorry about your moms. My mom has the cancer also. I started growing hoping I could cure her, but she didn't show any interest in MMJ. One thing though is that the newer chemos don't always necessarily make people feel ill. . It depends on the person and the type of chemo.

Rick Simpson oil would be a good way to go in case you haven't researched that option.. Oh.. or check out GREEN DRAGON on youtube, It's like RSO, but easier to make.

Even juicing leaves from flowering plants is said to do wonders. Sometimes I grind up buds and put them in my smoothies. THCA and CBDA from bud that hasn't been decarbed is supposed to be very good for a person, but has no psychoactive effect if made from fresh bud. Older bud would likely have decarbed somewhat in the curing process I believe. Not positive about that though.

To make the tincture, yes, I would decarb. Grind bud put in 240 degree oven for 30-60 minutes. If you don't decarb and just freeze the buds in alcohol or PG or VG how would the carbon molecule be released so that the medicine can fit into the receptors? I don't know, just throwing that out there..

Actually, too many people F themselves up making brownies. The problem is getting accurate dosage. Try this.. Do a search for coconut oil on here. There was a recent post.

Add 1/4 tsp decarbed bud for every tsp of coconut oil. Cook it on low heat in a double boiler in a warm bath. Then make your mom a tea and add 1 tsp of coconut oil. Have her drink half the cup and wait an hour.. Then drink the other half if she likes.

The worst thing is sending someone a mind-bomb, especially if they have been diagnosed with an illness.. Start off super slow. Also make sure you have well grown, late harvested, medical indica such as Northern Light. You want her to be relaxed, not jump up and run a marathon..

Best of luck.

wait wait..

youre not secretly giving this to her right?
You have her permission right?

it sounds like youre going to give it to her without her permission if thats the case...ABORT do not forcefully give her something she doesnt know about i know how much we all love our parents and if their ill we want to do everything we can to stop their pain and make it go away
but giving her brownies unknowingly making her high is a really bad idea,
you should show her research material about marijuana and cancer and how it can help her
and give the best strain to her if she agrees thats suited for her illness.

some people around here gave some visiting Jehovah witnesses brownies. Probably not very funny to the witnesses. The brownie givers ended up in court.

No, nothing secret I would't do that! My mom & dad are old school type people they think people that use cannabis are pot heads. But we are looking for options if she needs it. I'm not trying to get my mom high just trying to help after chemotherapy.
