Need some pro advice on House and Garden and Foxfarm

Hey guys, for the past year I have been using the complete foxfarm nutrient line with ffof soil. I am finally dialing it in and starting to have good results. I have been talking to some guys at local hydro shops and feel like I want to switch to something better. House and Garden is looking primo, aparently that's what a lot of the better growers use in the area. Anyways, I am wondering if I can ease into H&G or if I have to buy all the base nutrients at once. Right now I have quite a bit of my foxfarm stuff left except for Big Bloom. Is it possible to keep using my foxfarm lineup but substitute in something from H&G for the Big Bloom for now and continue subbing in new nutes as the foxfarm stuff get's used up? Any help would be appreciated :)

I'm assuming you're talking about dirt because I don't think fox farm makes hydro food (I could be wrong). In regards to H&G, I'm currently testing their hydro food Aqua Flakes and to give you a little insight into the company, their Aqua Flakes product is solid. Unfortunately the pH isn't but it's a high quality plant food that's as cheap to run as DynaGro (assuming you don't buy into H&G's additives which aren't needed).

I don't think you can 'ease in' as their bases are usually split into 2 parts and the quality of the base will tell you a lot about whether you want to try anything else from the company. I'd suggest you buy a litre of the two parts you'll need and see if it works for you. Personally, I wouldn't mix the two lineups for no other reason than to keep things simple and see if you like working with H&G.

I just wanted to comment on this statement real quick. It's very rare that a hydro shop owner would steer you in a certain direction based on results rather than profit. In the case of H&G vs Fox Farm, I'd be willing to bet that H&G is more cost-effective (base nutes only) but that's just based on the concentration levels of other similar products that I've used. That being said, it's generally beneficial to ignore anything and everything a shop owner has to say. Get your info from talented growers across a few different forums and make a truly informed decision the next time you walk into your local shop.

Hey I appreciate the advice. You are right about the hydro stores selling what they make the most profit on for sure. The guy at the store here seems pretty trustworthy and he showed me a different brand that was very inexpensive that he said works good too, but he said most of the experienced growers he knew proffered H&G. Anyways, I ended up buying another bottle of big bloom for 12 bucks and I am going to continue with my foxfarm lineup until I run out of some of the others. Might as well use what I have up instead of investing a couple hundred bucks into a new one when this works fine for now.

foxfarm makes fine base nutes.
Grow big (hydro version, blue bottle) and tiger bloom will give you good results.

The big money wasters are additives.
Kelp and a PK booster are cheap and will do wonders.

edit: Dynagro makes a great product.
It seems to be the consensus that the ideal NPK ratio for cannabis in vegetation is 3:1:2.
Dynagros foliage pro just so happens to have that same ratio, listed at 9:3:6. And it's very affordable.

I have ran H&G's coco nutes as well as there Bio1 in amended soil. Coco performed wonderfully but taste is better with the Bio1, and I had zero drop in weight. Used all their organic based additives also.

Their Aqua Flakes product is testing really well right now which makes me wonder about one of their additives. Have you tried their algen extract? I use a similar product from another company but I'm wondering if you've tried it.

I use it all.. I always use algen extract in Veg, it's pretty much Norwegian Sea Kelp so you can compare it to Floralicious Plus without the Norwegian . Roots Excelurator is kick ass and their new Amino Treatment is the shit!!! The only product I dont use is House and Garden's " Nitrogen boost" fuck that nonsense.. I use their Amino treatment as directed but I spend too much money on the amino treatment because they tell you to use too much. Next grow I will be using their Amino treatment @ 1/2 strength because one bottle is about 75 bucks. I go through at least 4 in one grow. house and garden is pretty expensive but in my opinion its one of the better synthetic nutrients
