Need opinion on first time grow

Hey im trying to start a hydro set-up for under 1600 or so, has anyone used sunlightsheds.com boxes or homegrown hydroponics systems and how well do they work, can you really walk away for days at a time. Also if these are not worth the price, is it possible(easy) to create a system that is automated so I can leave it unattended if needed. Id really appreciate all your guy's opinions, Im trying to yield a lb or so every harvest, thanks.

With 1600 bucks you can do so much better than a premade system. (Which I think are rip off BTW)
