Need Ideas For Organizing Extensive Seed Collection

This may very well be in the wrong section, and if it is I hope a mod will be kind enough to move it for me.

Alright fellow seed addicts, how do you organize your seeds? I keep mine in a plastic box in the fridge, but I'm having a hard time keeping them straight and when I go to look for a particular strain, it's a nightmare. I recently ordered some rather expensive seeds, only to find out later that I already had them in my collection.

I've considered a binder with clear pocket inserts, recipe files, ect. What are some of your ideas for housing a good size collection. I have over 100 strains and hundreds of seeds. Surely, I am not alone.

Instead of glass I got mines in medicine bottles with hand written labels. Breeders, strain, date, etc. My magic beans occupied the two bottom drawers in the fridge. Nice cool and dark. That was the agreement with the wife beforehand.

If I could find some sort of rack for them, that might work. Sorting thru over 100 glass bottles to find a strain is still a hassle. I may invest in some of those rotating spice racks...hmmm

My dream storage would be like a candy machine. Each strain would have a code so when you punch in the code, out drops the strain of your choice! I hate digging thru piles of containers! I want to be able to find the strain I'm looking for with minimum effort.
Seems like you need to separate them into some specific categories that makes sense to you, few examples....

Strain type sativa or indica dom, another for hybrids
Quality or cost of seeds.

The binder idea is interesting, something like a photo or CD album, not sure about the weight.

The most important is to start cataloging using a spreadsheet, works for any hobby you get into.
My goto for this is google sheets, keeps revisions if I make mistakes, can be accessed anywhere and shared if you wanted to.... honestly this is where you should begin and eventually you may figure something out along the way.

I do the same. I keep a spreadsheet on my laptop, categorized by breeder and genetics. I forget shit all the time and I can check it before any impulse buys due to "new" drops.

Seeds are kept in a small dorm fridge inside a bunch of old floppy disk containers. Each one is about 10" long by 4" wide. Works for now.

However, prior to picking up the dorm fridge, I used to keep them in our regular fridge in my kids lunchboxes. LOL :P

Buzz Lightyear and The Fairly Odd Parents for high end/most loved stuff and a Rug Rats one for UFOs/Freebies and miscellaneous. :bigjoint:

Edit before I get roasted: I no longer have little Tangerines runnin about. ;)

I'm thinking of buying several of these. I have a whole big refrigerator so I have plenty of room for them:

My wife suggested the binder the other day. I need some serious help. Like OP, digging through hundreds of strains gives me anxiety.

I was thinking categorizing by "sours", "kushes" "hazes" "og's" etc. but the binder is a solid idea.
