Need help understanding grow room air control

I have a 400W MH and HPS bulb with dimmable digital ballast (using it at 50%)

I want to get a 24" x 24" x 62" grow tent

I want to use a cool tube on the light to help keep the temps low

Why do people use a carbon filter when the air is just going through the cool tube and straight out the tent?

I understand the outdoor picture but am having a hard time grasping the indoor air control aspect in relation to the cool tube and ducting.

Thanks

You are looking at this the wrong way. The filter is to clean the odor of a garden out of the air being exhausted from the grow room. The carbon filter keeps your neighbors from smelling the garden hidden in your garage or spare bedroom. it just so happens that the lights are often hooked up to the same exhaust fan that vents the entire room.

To me it looks like the air going in and then straight out, not being used in the room at all. Not very scientific, any help would be great, Thanks

Right but I dont understand how the carbon filter is filtering any air if it is only connected to the ducting on the cool tube, which is connected to the ducting of the intake fan

First off, that is not a cool tube shown in the photo, but I am sure you already know that.

in the setup that you describe the air intake would be the carbon filter. it would than pass through the light, then the exhaust fan, then out of the tent via the ducting. The photo you posted doesnt show the ducting exiting the tent. but all the tents come with exhaust ports so you can exhaust the hot air

Actually, your confusion is probably caused by the photo itself. In the photo, the light fixture shown has no cooling system. The cool tube fixture is designed to be installed in the ducting system, pulling the heat off the buld and out of your tent.

Hope that helps

I get it now, I was confused because I kept thinking you should blow air through the filter instead of suck through it!! Thanks alot, now I see that if the fan the carbon filter is connected to in the end is strong enough than the carbon filter is sucking with enough force to move enough air through the cool tube to cool the light and then vent the grow tent
