So this is my set up:

Closet is 2x6x8, 96 Cubic Feet.

I have a 110 CFM fan in celing exhausting to attic. In attic I have 3 feet of 4" duct that comes off of exhaust fan and ends in the DIY carbon scrubber.

I just went up there today to check things out and I can barely feel any air coming out of the carbon scrubber. Its coated with dust..inside and out! Where I live is very dusty.

I am only growing 3-4 plants, what do I do now...? How bad will the smell be with 3-4 plants....

need advice/help!!

Shouldnt smell at all but you could probobly agitate the carbon or just rinse the dust from it and allow it time to dry, youll be fine. Get some prefilter mesh

Ya I ok I think I freaked out prematurely here. I mean afterall...dust gathers on my AC filter for my house....the air still blows through the carbon filter, just not as much/hard as it did when it was brand new. I think next time I will build one with screendoor material instead of panty hose. I am trying to get my temps down a bit they float between 82 and 90 and I am in week 2 since I planted. Plants are about 3" high right now. I have never grown before so I am a bit nervous and trying to make sure it all goes right.

I have ordered a whirlpool air purifier for the room for the in house smell and the carbon filter in the attic. Maybe overkill for 3-4 plants but I cannot afford to get busted!!

no no..I am only week 2 from seeds. They are like 3" tall...no smell. I know they won't smell for awhile but I want to be prepared.

I was trying to get heat down in my closet, I have seen 90" in there. I ordered a new fan but it won't work so I am stuck with my 110 CFM fan and temps hitting 90!

the carbon wont clog unless your humidity is high. it renders the carbon's odor absorbing properties useless....

i guess you could always use a prefilter if you are worried about dust

My carbon filter is COMPLETELY clogged. I use hard water in my humidifier and its VERY hard water...400ppm. First i noticed that the pre fliter on the carbon filter was getting white dust type of material on it, i ignored it and knew it was salt build up due to the shit water. Well, after only 3 weeks the air exchange in my tent went to completely ZERO. I know this because my tent was blowing up like a balloon! I realized that the prefilter was completely clogged. I pulled the prefilter back and my tent got sucked in immediately. I didn't have time to wash the prefilter and slip it back on and now my carbon filter is starting to clog. Full speed only gives me a slight sucked-in tent, whereas before it looked like it was going to collapse on itself (i didn't keep it at full when it worked).

What could one do to clear up this issue and clear up the carbon filter? Would just putting it under the sun resolve the issue? If it was just wet i would imagine it would work but its also got salt built up on it so im not sure. Is there any way to effectively and safely clean/wash a carbon filter?

So you are using a homemade carbon filter? What type of fan are you using? Size of lighting ?

No it isn't home made. Its an iPower carbon filter.

Lights are 1 4ft 4 bulb T5, and 1 4ft 8 bulb t5

Air coming out?? You should sucking air IN to the carbon filter.

The pre filter is there to stop that stuff before it goes in the filter.
You can go either way on most. But it is recommended to put the cotton pre filter inside.

I kind of open mine up and fold it in my Phresh filter and then connect the duct during winter to filter the exhaust I heat my house with.

I vacuum mine out with the hose attachment every once in a while. I go easy. It has always helped. I think it stirs the stuff up.

But if you used one without a pre filter it is stuffed with dust inside. I don't know the outcome in that case. But likely not good. At least you really might not need one for like six weeks probably. Depending on your houses tolerance of the smell.

Get a quality filter. I know a few people that got the I-power fan and filter combo and where not happy how they performed .
And why are you running a humidifier, do you live in a dry enviro? This time of year my dehuey is running.
