have you bought the hydro equipment yet? that stuff is expensive, soil is cheaper.

I think I know the light your talking about, and they are junk. If I'm correct they are the blue tinted " plant lights". You'd be better off with CFL lighting over that. Granted if yu had enough candles lit you could grow. Lol. CFL would be a good starter light, but bang for buck, HID lighting ftw.

The light system that Mrfootball suggested is going to be leaps and bounds better than a "blue home depot" bulb. I would suggest CFLs (Compact Flourescents) They run about 30-60 a bulb but for their size and electricity consumption put out a decent amount of lumens and run without a lot of heat as compared with HID lighting. They also don't require a ballast and they will screw into a normal light socket, however, make sure whatever you're plugging into can handle the wattage. Also you buy them according the the temperature of the light (changes the color you see). For vegitative growth use 6400k (more full spectrum/white/blue) and for flowering use 2300k (more red/orange). I used 4 of them on 2 plants and got 1.5 oz dry on my first grow. None the less, the more you invest into lighting the more dry bud you will have, but the bigger the light the greater the need for ventilation.

i suggest you to go with soil not dwc buckets bcuz its far more cheaper and for a starter 250w hps with plug n play ballast would be nice!PS.Bagseeds are pretty Shitty!

yah i think imma get a hps light:leaf:
If you're only going to be growing a couple of plants I'd recommend either a 150w or 250w HPS, you can hack a security light if you are tight on funds... Or you could use a 250w Envirolite CFL, or a couple of 125w Envirolite CFL's.. I wouldnt use Soil as your medium... its slow and dirty lol, Your idea of a DIY DWC Hydro setup is defo the way to go.. if you need any help - dont hesitate to PM me and I'll tell you exactly how to get the most from your setup! Do you plan to Grow in a cabinet, tent, or room etc ?? - STELTHY :leaf:

get a light, and buy F2 seeds from Nirvana, they're pretty cheap and work great. don't waste months of effort and waiting with bagseed. genetics is the most important factor.

My advice is to go with HPS, even if you go with a 150 watt you will be better off than CFL and it doesn't put much more heat off than CFL. Also hydro isn't that much more expensive than dirt and in the long run you will be much happier. If you have some experience you know the worst thing you can do is "over love" your plants, I would check with stelthy from all my lurking on here he has had really good success and his advice seems pretty sound. Good luck and always remember growing is something that should make you happy.

I disagree w/ both of you. as long as the weed the seeds came from is decent, you should be able to grow decent plants from it. a crap seed grown properly will produce better smoke than the best genetics grown poorly. genetics plays a part but not much. I have grown good bagseed and expensive seeds and see very little difference. the $300/10 pack seeds were beter but not by enough that I would recomend a newbie to drop money on.
since you have family that grows, why not start w/ clones?
