Need help choosing DIY COB

Hello everyone, i'm planning my new indoor setup and i think COBs are the right lightning choice for me since my aim is to save on the electrical bill. I will buy a Secret Jardin Hydroshoot 80x80x160cm grow tent, and i have a few doubts. I'd like to get a COB kit instead of separate componenents, since i don't have tools to work with iron (like drilling holes etc..)
- I'd like to go with cree cxb3590 cobs since i've heard they are very good. How many cobs, and so how many watts should i get for my grow space available?
- Can you suggest me a kit for that purpose? I'd like an european shop if possible since i live in europe, but i am willing to pay the extra shipment fee if it is only available in USA.

I accept any tip since i'm a newbie. Thank you in advance for your help, and sorry for my bad english :)

You may want to look at Bridgelux, Citi, or Luminous rather than Cree. Follow the links in the post above and you will find the kits you are looking for. Voltage and amperage will be dictated by the chip you select but if you buy a kit you won't have to worry about any of that. Check out quantum boards also if you are looking for kits.

Thank you everyone. However the links you provided me are USA stores, so the shipment cost would be very high for me. I found an european shop ledgrowshop.eu i hope it's ok.

Can you explain me why? Just to know, i have no preferences. Is the citizen CLU048 1212 a great cob for me?
thank you.

More light for less money is the short answer.

I would go with Citi cobs personally. They are great cobs and inexpensive. 4 cobs ran at 50w each would be a great setup.

For euro shoppers id either recommend
Checking thread:
https://www.rollitup.org/t/board-from-europe.958506/ - info on boards for sale in eu similar to quantum boards which seems to be this and last years craze.

Also tou can try @diyled , he is on the forum and helpfull, sells cobs and ledstrips, uk-based.

With your low ceiling height (160cm) i wouldnt recommend cobs as they require more clearance than ledstrips, also cobs need heatsinks that eat up more height.

Thanks everyone for the fast replies. Is the difference between cobs and quantum boards very big, speaking about price and efficiency? The thing is that i know something about cobs but nothing about quantum boards. If i buy qbs, i wouldn't know how to properly choose which one to buy or how to set them up. I've been looking around for some guides/infos but haven't found any.

For plenty of info on qbs and samsung strips try youtubing ledgardener, he has a channel with loads of info. He also has an archive on different strip builds.

The basic stuff to choose about a led build is spectrum (usually 3000k or 3500k for full cycle, maybe 4000k if you want to grow short plants with good potency but less yield) wattage per area (250 for that space sounds fine) serial/paralell power conection (serial is probably better but sometimes its easier to match driver-voltages with paralell).

Message @diyled here on the forum, he is knowledgeable and has a uk based one-stop place for diy parts. He can help you choose.

Or check out the diy with quantumboard thread and get them to connect you with a eu-distributor.

Hi again. I finally decided to go for 2x QB288 V2 for a total of 260W. Now i'm wondering about what grow tent i should buy, since the heatsink has a rectangular shape. Does this mean that i should buy a rectangular grow box to optimize light spread? Can you suggest me a good one so? Thank you.

If you want it without VAT or custom fees get your COB or strip based lights from @diyled. He's from GB, means fast delivery within the EU. He is a very trustworthy partner, has the best prices in Europe and would certainly help you optimally adapt a light to your space.
BTW,
Cree3590 are good, no question, but you can get twice as many COB's that are even better than CXB's for the same amount of money, eg. Luminous CXM22's ($19) or Citizen CLU1818's ($21).

If you rather like boards look at this thread(links incl):

https://www.rollitup.org/t/thoughts-on-the-zeus-308-board.968413/#post-14324271

The Zeus boards use the same Samsung LM301b like QB's(don't know the flux bin, but from input voltage it seems at least AZ bin) and they are a few bucks cheaper and shipped from germany. So no VAT/custom fees within the eu.

You should start from a given grow space or a budget for a light.

If you still want to go the cob way I would suggest, for example, export-estonia (ebay store) for Citizen 1212 gen6 90cri but you still have to find pin fin heatsinks. About 50euro for 5 cobs. I got em and I am happy with the result, 4 cobs at 1.05A in a 60x60cm tent (2x2ft).

@diyled started selling QBs if I am not mistaken! But we should know how big your tent is! For example 2 boards for a total of 260w are enough in a 60x120cm tent (2x4ft)

So...?

As above users suggested, i'll go for a 2x4 tent. I just need to choose it. I heard Secret Jardin is a great brand, but can't find any at a reasonable price on EU shops. Can you suggest me a good 2x4 tent and, if possible, an EU growshop which sells it?
Thank you again

Ledgrowshop stole money from me. Ordered from them, didnt get anything shipped and when I asked for a refund of my money they stopped answering so now I have to go through a big process with EU authorities to get my 700 Euro back. Wouldnt ever recommend anyone order anything from www.ledgrowshop.eu
