Figured so but sometimes you're high and question everything, especially since i'm on my first full grow. I've never gotten to finish a plant before and seems like the curing is one of the most important and make or break moments of the whole thing so I want to get it right. Lurk on.. haha

So far the cat I just finished my second grow from seed to harvest both were autoflowers I do not have the space or room to hang dry my plants maybe this is my problem so I’ve been using the paper bag method my friend suggest just using a shoebox and lining it with newspaper and cut some holes in the box kinda inline with the paper bag method both times my shit has come out looking amazing plenty of trichomes but they just don’t retain the smell or taste which is what I would almost prefer over potency so far both batches have come out smelling like grass/hay and I haven’t been able to get rid of the smell but they were small harvests and I’m impatient so it ended up getting smoked and maybe it just didnt get enough cure time in the jar food for thought up early this morning and already super baked lol

it’s hard to state a TRUE way to dry / cure ... as it is an experience kind of thing. My way is one of a thousand different ways.

But there are key things to do :

Drying slowly ( whether hanging or on a rack )
May take up to 10 days to get the dry where you need it.
Get some hygrometers ( digital ) - I tried those lizard analog ones but they swing too much in range.
Some growers wet trim , some dry trim ....
Some hang the whole plant ....
The brown bag method ( look online ) is not new but another way some growers do it.
Jars average about 32 oz. ( wide and small mouth ) ... Walfart sells them by the case $11.
Drying place you choose should avoid a lot of unnecessary light and be fairly RH / Temp stable.

( I used to use those large UHaul garment moving boxes ) with a rack to hang hangers of bud . )
Some air movement in area helps ( as long as it doesn’t hit them directly ).

Jars are the most recognized -
Fill about 3/4 or so ... checking on them and burping.
Time to burp varies ( but adding a hygrometer in jar helps a bunch ) as you can monitor what’s going on inside being sealed . Then you can spread out burping if necessary. Drying is the hard part.

Not dry enough - you get some funky odors . Sometimes pulling buds out and spreading on table to dry out helps then jar them back to check where it stabilizes after say a couple hours. I ALWAYS move buds around in jar while burping using a chopstick to mix them around.

Wet buds will mold and be a bust. Overdried buds ( under 55% ) usually causes cure to stop.
It is easier to STEP DOWN a jar’s RH instead of fucking up and trying to rehydrate buds.
Forget that tortilla , orange peel bullshit for hydration of overdried buds , if you overdried them out of the cure range then it’s on you.

I hope others will chime in too for you. I hope the chart below will guide you a bit.
Nice advice budz. I have been add a humidifier to my drying area, and I adjust the door open more or less and try to get the area about 60-65. Currently I have a dehumidifier in the other room set at 60 I think. It's a little crazy. For smell, I think time helps. Go 3 months between 60-65 and I think it slowly makes a difference.

Would this work for a curing jar? Have a few taller ones to use.
As far as I can tell I see no reason why it wouldn’t does it have a rubber seal around the top of it I always just use glass mason jars but it’s all the same principle your just trying to keep the air trapped inside to re-hydrate your buds then open it to let new air in repeat so yes they should work just fine the cat

Beware! I got some glass jars like that but the seals were not real rubber but something else. After a few weeks the seal began too smell, then rot!
Also make sure the jar is food safe. Sometimes they sell that decorative stuff that's made in China as usable but it may not be safe.

Pigkiller that is all very good information that I had not thought about at all food safe means safe for anything

They are supposed to be for holding spices. I used to keep my coffee and sugar in them which kept them fresh and they do have rubber seals (at least it seems to be rubber) but I will just use a regular mason jar to cut out the guess work. These were just already here to use. Thanks.

Always better to be safe then sorry my friend hate to see you lose your stash cuz of a stupid jar but if you have been keeping that stuff in them and it was keeping them fresh then I wouldn’t worry cuz your still here to write about using them so I would consider them safe in my own personal humble noob opinion

Instead of hanging my plant I decided to chop and set it in brown bags upside down, still on the stems. Wondering how often I should open and how long I leave open or if for the drying process I shouldn't open it at all other than to check on it once or twice a day.

Guess it might depend on the humidity of your room. If it's real low I think don't open the bag much. If it's 60-65 you could open it a lot if you needed to or even leave it open. You might want a humidifier and a little air flow in the room. I haven't done it this way so hope others chime in but that's what I think.

Appreciate it. I live somewhere that is hot as fuck! trying to keep it between 65-70 at least though.
Update about the jar, my friend is loaning me a glass jar with a cork lid to use.

So once the bud is in the jars you burp until 60/65 rh.......
Once you achieve that do you just keep the jar closed, and it retains the correct moisture ?

I believe once it stays at that rh reading for more then 24 hours without moving then you are all set to let it just cure maybe open once a week or something

Legend mate,ta very much
I do it once a day then but just because I read that somewhere. But the more often you do it the more likely you are to forget and leave it open which ends the cure if you hit say 55rH. So don't forget to set a kitchen timer before you even open them so you don't forget because you always do if you're like me. I leave open 20 or 30 mins.

Cheers pal, I'm back growing after over ten years. Back in the day I didn't even know about curing! Thanks for the advice
