Need Germination Help!

I believe I may have messed up. I bought the jiffy dome with 12 jiffy pellets. I followed the instructions and planted the seeds directly into them. I have a heating pad that's not too warm underneath. So far it's been over 48 hours and no sign of any sprouts. I'm afraid my seeds are upside down /sideways. Should I take them out and put them in a paper towel?

You can't burry them upside down. When they break open they naturally self orient themselves. Just keep them hydrated and warm. They'll be fine. Also make sure you have lights right on them, because they do spout, you want the lights to be on so they don't stretch.

If you start seeing white powder on the side, take off the dome. I stopped using jiffy pots and domes because it increases mold, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't effect the plant at all. You will want to cut the bottom mesh of the jiffy put before you transplant though.

Thank you for your help. So your saying I should I put some light on them even though they haven't sprouted? And where would I see white powder on the side? of the jiffy pellet?

Yeah the sides are what get moldy. At least for me. The lights don't do anything when the seed isn't spouted other then provide a little extra warmth, but when the seed does pop, if its dark it's going to stretch. You could just bury the stem, but I like to do it right the first time. So I turn my lights on and set them on a timer right when I sow them. Sure I'm wasting a little electricity, but mine don't stretch. :)
