I'm starting a DWC grow and I want to know if river rocks are good for the medium. I have heard people say use hydroton or lava rocks.. But I cant find any at a local home depot but they got a lot of river rocks and lava rocks.. I am thinkin go going with the river rocks, but I need to know if anyone have other better alternative.

River rocks will work just make sure you clean them well. Rocky Media in dwc is mostly to give the plant a way to hold itself up while its roots establish. You could use nothing at all if you could find a way to support the plant.

that's what I was wondering why people say use this and that, where I thought all your nutes are in the water and roots are gonna stay in water, what does it matter if the medium can hold nutes or releases...

anyway thnx, gonna wait til I get my ph kits before I start anything and SUCKS my house drainage just got clogged!!!! the entire house is clog.. gotta hide my shietts from the landlord!!

Yeah smaller 1/2" river rock would work. Hydroton is founde online really easy, rock wool works as well and so does large perlite.

River rocks are expensive as shit at my local Lowe's maybe you got a good price on them but that Giganto as bag of hydroton is only 30 bucks.

I like using the cyco expanded clay since theirs is not round. Its cheap enough to just throw away after each cycle. Too much time and cost in cleaning them.
