Ok, so here's the deal..

I'm purchasing a cooltube HPS, and need to cool it. I will also eventually need to make a DIY carbon filter. My temps are a bit of an issue, and my grow room is 10' (wide) x11' (long) x8' (high).

Now, my question is THIS...
6" All Metal Inline Booster Fan 6 Inches Duct Fan 240 CFM

And the link to it

I can get 2 of these for about $45, and they'll fit my ducting strait away...

-OR-

Stanley High-Velocity BlowerFan (which i would mod)

.
Here's the fan itself

Then i'd have to do this;

One Stack boot from lowes $7

Firstly I measured sorta carefully the difference between the outlet of the blower and the stack boot and cut two pieces of R-3 insulation to close the gaps and siliconed them into place.

Slide the Boot over the exhaust of the blower securing it in place with four self tapping machine screws from the bucket O junk, and sealing it with silicone.

For the intake I used and orchid pot with the bottom cut out, securing it with superglue and sealing with silicone.

Drill two Holes in the base on opposing sides of the center seam to mount it to the ceiling
and TADA

Supposedly the high setting moves 310 CFM, and has already dropped my room temperature by Five degrees.

More work and a LITTLE more money, but it seems like it's a lot more powerful.

I'm just curious what YOU guy's think.
And before ANYONE suggests that I simply get an inline fan, if that was an option, I wouldn't be debating between these 2 items. Both have advantages. The first would be quiet, and won't need any modification. But the second is powerful, and the same price. Not to mention the mods aren't very expensive.
I'm just worried the inline booster won't have enough power to pull air through my carbon filter once it's built and installed...

Anyway, no fighting, no rude comments, and no insults regarding my going with DIY rather then simply BUYING fans and carbon filters. I'm growing for a single patient (not me ;-)) and my money goes to help keep my family housed and the water/gas/power, ect on.

Thanks for all your help (in advance) and I look forward to your opinions. Alternatively, if anyone has any other suggestions, cheaper fans, better mod idea's, by all means, please let me know. Keep in mind however that I have between 40 -50 bucks MAX to drop on a fan.

Thanks again guys. I'm ordering within the next 24 hrs at the longest, so the sooner I get this feedback the better!

Hey pretty creative wit the mods on the blower.two thumbs up on that how heavy is the thing? I would be to paranoid of it fall while it's blow at max power. But I had the same dilemma i had bought two of those booster online fan to cool a 600watter and it wrk fine until I got the carbon filter which made me get a 6inch vortex which is a bit loud but when u add a speed control thingy it helps a lot. How noisy is that Stanley blower?if at all

Hey mate here is my 2 cents worth :D

i run a 600w cooltube, with a total of 3.5m of ducting, the fan is 6" inline booster rated at 400cfm, that does fine with a little bit of acoustic ducting on the exit side, i have fitted a carbon filter to it and it wouldnt pull that well, so i would say go the blower vac if it isnt too loud....ducting and CF will dramatically reduce the booster fans pulling capabilities, really a centrifugal is the way to go, but they are way loud and $$$

Hmm, but with both it would be 500, so I wonder if I wouldn't be better off with them since they don't produce nearly as much noise i'm sure as the blower does.

I didn't create that mod, I just found it

But I believe it's pretty noisy, but I've never owned one.
Do you know what the CFM was on your booster fans?

EDIT: I'm told that it's low setting is quiet, and high setting is quieter then your overage box fan. However, I believe thats with all the mod attachments. But I think i'll be going with the stanley!

Purchased the Stanly, I've heard a lot of great things now. That it's pretty quiet, mods in minutes, and is powerful enough to handle heat + carbon filter. I will make an attempt to record my results with it in this thread after it arrives and I use it.
Thanks to everyone who gave their opinion and helped me come to this conclusion. I know I made this right choice.

Good growing all!
