Need advice on extraction

So I’m new to all of this but I got my self a cheap 5” black orchid kit so carbon filter and fan and a 400w hps with standard reflector but it’s so hot so I dim to 250w witch is a pain anyway I was having heat problems so I bought a 5” tt fan as it pulls more my temps are still 30c maybe 35 on a hot day so I now got my self a 6” tt in-line but had to connect it to my 5” filter and 5” duct and temps are gon down from 33c to 30c what am I doing wrong I tried to put my only fan at a intake but it’s just to put in the tent even with a speed controller the air gets push out the tent rather then get suck through the filter I need help for this temp will it be better when I 6” duct comes and also I need to get a 6” filter at some point just tight on money at the mo

can you find a 6 to 5 inch reducer? not sure if they make them, but i don't see why they wouldn't.. 4 to six is a more common size, but like i said, i'd imagine they should sell a 5 to six inch reducer..

The only real effective solution in a single step is a sealed air cooled reflector. It doesn’t help to shuffle the air around. It needs to never be in the tent. A 6” hood with a 6” booster fan. And do not put a filter in the line. The heated exhaust shouldn’t smell that much. Filter the air from inside the tent instead. Not in the light cooling circuit.

i was thinking the same thing, but he said he's on a budget, lol, but yeah, i agree with hhr, aircooled hood is your best bet..

Best money I’ve ever spent on one grow item. Made it possible for me to go from a 600 to a 1000 to flower. I wish I had always had one.
how much do you think it drops the temps for your space hotrod? just curious, i've always been interested in one, but never pulled the trigger for some odd reasons.. they'd be perfect for my small ass space as well i'd imagine.. what do you do with the hot air you vent from the light?

In warm weather I vent the air out a window. In winter it just drifts to the top of my ceiling. Single room dry cabin. It gets very cold here and the heat is welcome outside the tent in winter. The ceiling isn’t flat so it has some room. The intake is by a window in summer and next to the floor in winter. It drops the temperature inside the tent a good 10 degrees. Enough to make the most of the light.

About a 3rd of the heat is removed with aircooled lights if the heat is vented out the house.

What size tent.
Where does the extracted air go to?
Where is your thermometer?
What's the cfm of the fan your currently using?
What time do you have your lights turning on and off?

As already suggested an air cooled hood will drop the temps considerably and they don't cost much but you do need to know the difference between a good cheap one and a bad cheap one because there's a shit load of crap ones.
It also wont help you much of your just venting the heat into the same room your tent is in.

Tent is 80x80x160cm I currently vent into a different room but the door has to stay open as the duct goes out there I have no way of venting it outside as I don’t want to just put it out a window and the fan is a 6” tt think it moves 520 m3/hr and currently using a 5” carbon filter about 380m3/hr temps are 30c today and lights run 24/7 as doing autos

Well you could cut the hours down to 20/4 having it off at the hottest part of the day.

Are you measuring air temps out of direct light in well circulated air?

I can cool 400w with a 4" fan in the warmest part of my house but I vent into a disused chimney.

Those TT fans are not very good, not sure on how well they handle resistance and you have more resistance due to the fact your trying to use a 6" fan and pull through a 5" filter. Which is a bad idea due to the fact the contact time with the carbon is reduced so the performance of the filter is reduced, as in, it might not clean all the air.

I would go with option 1. Turn your lights off in hottest part of the day for 4 hours. Lot of auto growers don't run 24/7 and personally I think it defies nature.

Get your self through this grow. Get some photo periods next time.
Hit reply if you reply because I wont see it otherwise.

Also I got the impression you tried using an intake but the tent blew air out?
That suggests your extraction isn't performing as it should.
Did you check under your dust cover on filter before installing it? Just a though but they are sometimes cellophaned up

6” fan into a 5” hole and then filter will disappoint. Should be the opposite. Little fan - big hole. The way you have it creates a venturi and speeds the air up and reduces exposure time for the air to the carbon. Or whatever filter is used. You want it to slow down.

Think I may have fixed it I’m now venting it outside room temp 22 tent temp 29c so still can’t use my 400w but I tried to put on a 5” in take with the end out the window tent ain’t blowing up anymore but it seems to raise the tent temp ???????
