Myth or Method?: Adding Flavor to your Crop

There is a lot of BS in there. You don't go by the color of the pistils; we go by the clarity (not color) of the trichomes. Also, what's the deal about "cutting the buds off"? We cut branches, not buds. We don't use big fan leaves to make "pure thc honeyoil"; we use the trim. Fan leaves do not have enough THC to even matter. Hanging buds upside down is meaningless; drying is drying. He says "When the leaves get stiff..." You don't want to leave the leaves on there; the bud is trimmed immediately after harvesting, so there should not be any leaves to get stiff. He talks about adding fruit juices; plants do NOT uptake organic compounds - period, so adding fruit juice, extracts and flavorings are a complete waste. That guy is a moron.

Not wanting to argue, but... how can you say "plants do NOT uptake organic compounds"? So everyone that grows organically is producing bud how? I myself grow 100 percent ORGANIC, and my plants are doing very well. Maybe im confused as to what it is you mean.

Word, thanks for the advice - you can say you saved some buds =)
just stick wit the bud's natural flavor
if ur wanting a certain taste then try and find some genetics that suit your needs

The fact that a seedbank even has that hogwash on a web page is sickening. lol

Who would put extracts of flavor into soil or even hydro?

What a fucktard.

Have you never heard of using Molasses for adding flavor? Or a little company called Advanced Nutrients that makes a thing called Bud Candy. Those that use the word "fucktard" really shouldnt call other names.

mollasses isnt for adding flavour. its to feed the microbes. there is so much missinformation online on how and what foods do. and no plants cant eat any form of what we give them untill its converted to a food. organic cant be eaten. microbes eat it then poop out the food form that a plant can uptake. and with synthetic we add the salt to the ellement to make it edible emediatly. this is hwy synthetic will always out grow an organic grown plant as the process is just to slow. some organics take months to break down but we think it helped.
bud candy...you mean a bottle of glucose and other fake sugars. thats all it is. go to 7-11 and grab the fake sugar and its the same thing. dont be fooled by a salseman

i dont get why the need to flavour good smoke anyways. isnt the taste and more why we buy it in the first place, then we change it?. why not run crap bag seed then and flavour it as we want. would save alot of money on fancy seed/.
why do kids always have to insult when someone has diff info than what they think is right...dont get the mentality. no wonder weed is illegal we cant even get along together.

More myth, molasses is more counter productive in a grow than productive. And Bud Candy is only used by fucktards that like throwing their money away.....

That seems to be where you and I are at. We just disagree. You know as well as i do, if you ask 20 growers how to do it, you will get 20 different answers. We do agree though that name calling is just not necessary no matter what the situation.

well dood im just trying to help with missinformation from a nutrient maker. so if were wrong we better pull the products of the shelf, i think ill go with what the chemist tells us and the biology guys
yes theres a million and 1 ways to grow./ but not on how the food works or what a plant can eat or not

Good to see community members discussing this wonderful art, but I agree we don't have to shoot each other down. There are of course going to be differing opinions of whether or not to flavor to begin with, however the purpose of this thread was intended for us to discuss whether or not it has, or could be done!

I grow as a hobby, I enjoy it & continue to learn through advice as well as experience.
So far I've gathered from a few of your responses that the concepts presented aren't biologically possible. Curious to as if anyone has any other methods they have ever attempted & what their results were =)

No reason really, I love the taste of bud - but one day me & my wife were at a hookah lounge and had the thought of if you can do it to tobacco why not weed? Just wondering if there was a natural way to give flavors, so we're not dunking our nugs into sticky flavored syrups!

well yes you can flavour buds anything you want...use flavoured extract for baking. we already add food colouring to nutrients

Besides all the BS in the link on my first post, he mentions doing that shortly before harvest.

If it is possible I'd be interested in trying it, not looking for a change in the high just a new flavor :leaf:

Some OG Kush Creamsicle style - part orange part vanilla

How bout Blueberry that tasted like you were smoking a fat blunt rolled with blueberries??

can add it anytime. im sure the later will leave more flavours in it. im sure its something you have to play with on amounts and when for what taste your looking for. some flavours are more potent so wont need so much. and it wont be exact to what youll think for a flavour. there are the natural flavours and aromas that will effect that outcome to. how much it does...who knows till you try

I'm not saying they don't uptake organic nutes, just that they do not uptake inorganic compounds. They break down into mostly carbons and hydrogen and can be assimilated at that time. Here you go; check down the page to the post by "TerrorByte" (maybe 40% of the way down. http://www.biology-online.org/biology-forum/about10736.html

Notice that in the link I posted he says that the sucrose in a plant is not produced by the roots; it is done by photosynthesis. I think you may be thinking about the terpines that the plant produces; that is not dependent on extra flavors coming in from outside.
