Myth of more females in crop?

was just lookin round the net at a few sites for growin the 'erb (as you do) and found this quote:

"Another idea is to interrupt the night cycle with about one hour of light. This gives you more females."

Thank you for all u have done and sacrificed for this country Mad Hatter. +rep for being a hero!

I think veg temprature/lighting quality may affect male/female ratio.
-my first batch of 20 seeds, which were stared in a cold attic room in february under blue plant bulbs.....2 females currently and doing awesome
-i started another 20 seeds bout a month later....was warmer, had a ton of flourescent lights................14 females currently and doing awesome.

may just be luck, but not sure

all were bag seed from mexican crap,lol

that aint right man..sorry to hear about that. you'll find somethin though dont sweat it! you do any growing these days?

"Dutch Passion: From literature and our own findings it appears that the growth of a male or female plant from seed, except for the predisposition in the gender chromosomes, also depends on various environmental factors. The environmental factors that influence gender are:

a higher nitrogen concentration will give more females.
a higher potassium concentration will give more males.
a higher humidity will give more females.
a lower temperature will give more females.
more blue light will give more females.
Fewer hours of light will give more females.

It is important to start these changes at the three-pairs-of-leaves stage and continue for two or three weeks, before reverting to standard conditions."

For plants from seeds (veg only) I:

- add 2ml Nitrogen per gallon of regular nutes;
- 15,000K light (blue);
- home made "grow tent" to raise humidity (sometimes I leave a small bucket of water open if there's room);
- run 18/6 lights (also helps develop the root system).

I'm pretty sure I get at least 50% females. ;)

Easy Skanin Dutch Passion suggested starting the nitrogen when the plants are at 2 or 3 sets of leaves, I just use straight water until then as well. I'm always cautious of damaging the roots at that age.

From then you just add a nitrogen additive when you water or feed. If you have a soil like Fox Farm that has nutes in it just add the nitrogen to your water. Go light, I'd even start out at 1ml per gallon for a bit, see how your seedlings react.
