Hey peeps! My Worm Bin has become over-run with mites, My Worm Bin is indoors and I don't like the fact Mites are crawling all around the area I got the Bin in, I've ordered some Neem Meal to sprinkle in there and hopefully it will get rid of them, as I wanna start a grow in my room too I'm putting it off untill the mites are gone otherwise it will be pointless...

This is what i ordered http://www.thenaturalgardener.co.uk/neem_natural_fertilizer.php I also ordered this http://thenaturalgardener.co.uk/seaweed_granules.php from the same site just to save on postage as it really adds up if ya keep buying from diff sites.

Does anyone else know of any products I can use to get rid of my mite problem without fucking with my worms and good bacteria/fungi?

I don't think these are spider mite? maybe soil mites? guy from icmag said they more than likely be soil mites and they are a goodthing, I just don't like these fuckers crawling around my room just had one crawl across my screen fucking rank. I'm hooving my room atleast 5 times a day just so if there is some on my carpet they get sucked up

w89 - I wouldn't worry about the mites that much. Try not to let them phase you. In a true living organic garden you want bugs...it's all about good/bad bugs keeping each other in check - just like the good/bad microbes. It is all a balancing act - but as long as they are not spider mites I wouldn't be worried about starting up a grow in the same room. Hooving the floor is a waste of time IMO...

That being said, if you are just annoyed by them and want their presence diminished, that neem cake should work once it arrives. Also if you have a source for them I'm sure ladybugs would love to feast on a tub full of defenseless mites :) My local hydro store sells 1500 for $8 - a good investment, especially once they start breeding

But for real, don't trip about the mites. They are just playing their role in the soil food web, and right now there happens to be an open niche for their population to explode. Give it time and I'm sure you will see their population dwindle back to a healthy level. As long as your worms are happy everything is gold - the mites are probably helping in the breakdown of food, etc. which can't really be a bad thing unless it is somehow hurting your worms...

Hope this helps

Hey Cann my man! Those mites are soil mites and are a good thing, I've done some more reading up about them, just wish they would stay in the worm bin tho as this bin is in my room they are crawling about... I#'m gonna just put the tub in my mums shed and then they can crawl and do what the hell they like then lol

Perfect :blsmoke: Just make sure the temps in the shed are warm enough for your worms to be happy. Often times cannabis growers view bugs like they are all evil...this is not the case!!! I always have a horde of ladybugs in both my rooms for protection and for the added company :)

yeah Ive always put lady bugs in my groom in the summer.. I get my 7yr old sister to collect them from the garden. we got a few bushes in my mums garden which they love. At my new place I don't have a garden which is shit but i'm tying to get an allotment...

Ive just popped a few beans, afghan x skunk1, Powerplant x Lavender and Northern Lights x Belladonna. all from cream of the crop genetics, I wone them in a competition in the weed world mag couple of issues ago.

W89,

If you are concerned about the mites you should try and dry your bin out some. Add shredded news paper over the top of the active bin, it will help control the excess moisture.
