my stealth cabinet

Hey All!

i got a dresser at a yard sale that i thought would be perfect for a stealth grow area.

i took all the drawers out, removed everything but the faces, and then reattached them to the front of the dresser.

i also put wheels on the bottom to wheel it out from the wall and back, with some black plastic to prevent light leakage underneath.

i separated the dresser into a veg at the bottom, with 3 cfl grow lights, and a flower in the top with a 400 watt cooltube hps light.

i have the dresser backing up directly on an ac vent, which is channeled directly to the flower room by the flex-duct. my temperatures with the veg lights on and no flower lights is 65, which is a little cooler than i wanted, but with the flower light on, it should raise the ambient temperature a whole lot, but that's where the inline fan would come in.

i have a standard 6'' inline fan that does very little -- i have to reduce it with a 4'' reducer, which i think might decrease the flow -- but im torn between getting a regular 4'' inline fan, or a 4'' vortex inline fan.

i feel fairly safe that the vortex would remove heat, but at what auditory cost, i don't know... its currently situated in the living room, but it can be relocated...

i might be able to get away using the 4'' regular inline fan, as it is only moving air a total of 48'', but there is a little light leakage from the cool tube into the white out-vent on the rear through the flex-tube.

my initial thought was to create a "U" or "S," of sorts, with flex-duct to hopefully trap the light in allow the hot air to keep flowing -- but that would almost force me to get the higher CFM fan, and then noise becomes an issue again...

so...thats where i am now :) with my Barney Farm's Feminized Blue Cheese and Dinafem's Blue Widow seeds, waiting to get started!!

let me know what you all think!!

I figured out how to cool the cool tube!

I picked up one of the high velocity fans from walmart for just over 40 bucks, positioned it in the bottom to blow up, channeled it all through the flex duct, and it's good to go!

i have the flex duct almost tying in a knot, which prevents a good portion (85%?) of the light from coming out of the back.

Much better than i thought it would be...

looks good. is the entrance in the back? make sure there are NO light leaks from your veg chambr to your flower chamber.. it looks like there will be light escaping from your veg chamber to your flower chamber.. that will really fuck your day up.

it is only accessible from the back -- there is a little light leakage when looking at the back door, head-on, but nothing escapes to the sides, or is visible from the front when on.

the veg area has been changed around a little. by having the fan in the bottom, i wasnt able to have the lights i was going to have there...so i was torn between getting lights that fit the new area, or relocating the fan.

so i turned on the light, turned on the fan. the avg temperature was 87, so i thought by putting the fan in the flower area, i would be able to pull some of the hot air out of the flower room...it also means i have to worry about odor getting out, but a task for another day :)

im only using the veg area now, and i caulked the flower room so that nothing leaks through, and it looks like a little bit of caulk needs to be added for a good seal. i also cut a piece of cardboard (under the fan) closing the veg out, too. i cut a circle to run the ac into the flower room, too.

getting better!

not loud at all!! it sits on an ac vent (savior!) and it sounds like air is coming out of it...all the time -- but that sound. solid whoooosh.

the only thing that sucks is every now and then the metal hardware on the face of the cabinet starts rattling; change-in-the-ashtray-on-the-highway type sound. but im going to put a dab of hot glue where the metal meets. fix that bitch :)

Hmm 87, that's hot. 400w lamp seems a little big for that space, no? ...what are the dimensions of the your top room, and entire dresser (just curious, weighing options whether I should do storage/clones area, side by side with veg area, as to not lose height, instead of doing it below. I was wondering if you had considered the latter, and what your thoughts were?

400 watt is probably overkill -- the area in the flower room is a total of 5-6 cubic feet.

i only have 2 400s and tube cfls. but im not using the flower room for another month at the least.

Im new to this hobby as well and im going to be using a portable closet that you can get from Walmart. Anyways the demenisions are height:69 inches, Width:28.5 inches and Deep:19 inches. I want to use a 600watt light with a cooltube reflector and i eventually want to run 2 inline fans for heat exhaust. One fan to run cool air to the light and one fan to suck outthe hot air from the light??? Is this how they do it to keep the light temp down when in such an enclosed space?? Also instead of using soil for my plants i was thinking of investing some money in the beginning to get a...........................
