My SIX Port Clone Machine for $25

Hey everyone.
I've been using rapid rooter plugs for a while now, but the tray and dome I have take up so much space, I wanted something I could root cuttings in without having to dome them.
I have been looking at the clone machines and decided to build one.
I was going to buy one but the cheapest eight site unit was around $75.00.
I built this one for around $25.00.
I had the bucket.
Submersible pump $10
three feet of 1/2" tubing $6
six 360 degree spray heads $6
six neoprene 2" collars $3
Total $25.00
Here is some pics,
I used zip-ties to attach the tubing to a net pot that I turned upside down inside the bucket.
You could use a basket or anything.
I cut holes in the lid, added water and rooting supplement and the four cuttings in there now are thrilled.
There was no initial droop or anything. The sprayers are working great. When I lift a vacant collar and look in the thing is misting and spraying all over the place!

But did it actually work? Did you get roots? I have 100% success with the RR method, very little success with the clone machine. It's probably something I did or did not do but still it's hard to argue with 100%; I just do what works for me.

that;s what i was wondering too.. doesn't that water heat up a ton leaving the pump on all of the time? i have a bought cloner kinda like that, and my water gets way hot due to the pump in the bottom. :(
That was my thought too. I figured i could run my pump out of the rez. It's magnetic drive and there are fittings for this option. I will be trying it out in a small nft rig.
for clones, i believe i will stick with rockwool. Once i did what al b fuct suggested (wool should only be 4-5x it's dry weight when water is added) my results went to 80%-100%. I was very happy with that.

Not trying to discourage anyone. This diy sounds very helpful. I was concerned that a cycle-timer might be needed and they seem pricey ($100 round here)

yeah, i have a daisy cloner, and aside from the 360 misters clogging up every 4 minutes, and the water getting super hot, it works great, lol.. :D

Thanks rb,
i've heard that a lot. Wish i'd known it when i shelled out for a 600gph pump. lol
Not to thread hijack but i did put it to good use to 'charge' my intake as my intake rh was !5% or less over the winter. It involved a 'y' pipe and was simple to make.
many noobs, including me, get excited and bypass simplicity. I am heading for that when i go to nft from soil. Someone here was very kind and gave me great advice about nft and its reliability. it is looking even easier and simpler than pro-mix while avoiding root problems that i occasionally get in pro-mix.
time will tell

This looks almost like what I use to clone but instead of a water pump and sprayers, I use an air pump and have the bottom of the stem dipped into the water like a DWC but without roots. It's worked real well for me and I usually get roots in about two weeks.

Sorry but this is NOT gonna work very well at all, but you may paint that bucket black and you will get a few to root, cloning is Cambrian engineering ..thats all to stimulate roots they gotta be in the dark ,,pump on 24/7 for 10 days

I tend to root em differently. These are cuttings from three different plants that were ready to harvest. I keep this tray with the plants on the window seal in the kitchen. They have been in the vials for 21 days. Window has a southern exposure and they get a fair amount of light, plus the lights in the kitchen are turned on and off multiple times every night. I don't do more than 3-4 at a time, but it works for me! These girls don't hardly know what dark is.

Pretty amazing! What are you putting in the water?

well water. I change it every 2-3 days. Once a couple of days ago I put in one drop of a weak solution I had made to water with. That was the only time i added anything.
