Are they slimy? Some nutes (like GH) can stain the roots colors.

Rootrot will cause the roots to be slimy.

Mines look like that but are strong also. Last week when I did a flush (I flush weekly) they seem to clear up when I let it run on PH only driven water without anything else in it for a half day. I let it run for half the day before adding nutes. I think the clean flush clenses off the Hydrton, nute solution and bucket crap when you flush. I hear, if your not sure... Flush Anyways.

1tsp per gallon of 30% h202 (hydrogen peroxide) once a week- not to be combined with live bacteria, it will kill it... if you use it just as your flush you may be able to still use live bacteria during the week.

One other question is did you soak your Hydroton pebbles to remove any of the build up that occurs on them?

They could just be getting stained from the Pebbles if you didnt rinse them well.

agreed though that H2o2 will help kill any bacteria or Pythium that is on your roots but if you use any beneficial bacteria it will also kill those.

You could try flushing with plain water.

Healthy roots are white and fine if they start to look too thick then you could have some sort of root rot starting.

Up the very top of your pot it looks like there is either a big cluster of roots starting to clump together or it is a single root hair that is swelling up and looking larger than the rest. when your roots look huge ie a single root strand that is massive this is usually the start of pythium.

Are you using any sterilising agent in your nutes to keep your water clean from bad bacteria? Pythoff or something similar?

Rotten roots, smell funky and when pulled on, easily break away

Microbial avail in Australia, unsure about worldwide is good pythium and diseased roots...........

Generally once you have rotten roots, they dont have much survival chance, You will also have higher chance of getting sciarid flies

yes I soaked my hydroton over night. Imma do a res change today and run with just water to see if it clears them up. How long should I run it and can somebody give me a h202 formula? Like how do you mix it? What kinda peroxide to use?

ok I just drained my system and cleaned it out pretty good. I added fresh new water and 20 teaspoons of h2o2. My res is 20 ggallons. How long should I run this? I was thinking for like 12hrs then add my nutrients.

1 tsp of 30 or 35 percent h202 per gallon can be mixed right with your nutes or you can just do it as your flush unless your running beneficial bacteria, i would just mix it with the nutes and leave it till the next refill, it won't hurt your plants. in fact it will deliver a massive amount of oxygen to your roots giving them a good boost

The H2O2 will clean it off and promote new root growth. Liquid karma always stains, and root growth seems to slow.

If you are using nutes with chelating agents the h202 can interfere and make them less effective. In this case it is best to do as you said and wait a few hours before adding nutes.
