My Perpetual Zero-Veg Op

So I was breaking up a big nug of White Russian for personal use and out came about a dozen nice dark seeds. It's the only nug I kept from that entire crop, so I hope the rest of it isn't toooo seedy! Hopefully it was an isolated case. I haven't gotten any reports at least. Anyway, I just threw them in a paper towel along with a single LA woman fem and a Sweet Haze fem. I haven't busted beans since March so I gotta keep in practice.

25 day cheese in the middle, 14 day cheese to the left (you can't really see it) and Chronic at 7 weeks on the right. Still have high humidity problems but the new 14,000 btu portable air conditioner I"m getting tomorrow should help that out. Damn it's been a wet spring.

shnkrmn,

Great post and journal many props. I too am from that big green state on that map. Right now I am in dirt but looking to move to a hydo setup much like yours (smaller scale). Reviewing your post has helped greatly. Thx for your time and many efforts with your ops.

Man oh man, are you ever right. And it comes with all sorts of warnings about not extending the hoses, lol. Right now it's venting into my garage. I think a big bucket of ONA gel might be just the ticket. Or I can mount an ozone generator inside the outlet hose, I guess. Although I would have to buy one. Crap, it's one thing after another.

On the other hand, the ac unit works great cooling and dehumidifying my space. Bud rot has been an issue lately. grrrrrrr!

Watch out for those portables. The one I got blows the stink right out. Need to devise some kind of filter for it...

Yeah, the more you get going, the more money I spend on stuff for it. I wonder if friends and family wonder why I'm always broke haha.... Just spent another $350 today on "supplies", and I'll be spending another $550 next paycheck/whenever I get enough. Then I still have stuff I need that's in the back of my head that totals probably $1500.... Add that to the already probably $3500 I have in all this...

10 weeks for the WR. I took it over 11 once, but there was no point. It grows a very compact uniform shape, though, perfect for SOG. The Chronic wants to get sort of sloppy. I think the first post in this thread has a pic of what I mean by that.

lol gen. I've almost abandoned this thread; I get my fix on the 600 for the most part. Couldn't ask for a better audience and feedback (not to mention the fairy) :D

I'm getting a 48 site Turbokloner in 5 days. Going to fire that up immediately and I'll update here then. Cloning has been kicking my ass.

I have a 25 site botanicare cloner and used that well for two years. Burned out the pump, replaced it and my success rate slowly fell to like 20% which is not useful. I tried a lot of different things, an interval timer, different cloning solutions etc. Pump burned out again and I turned to rockwool plugs which I've used in the past with lots of success but now not so much but better than 20%. I decided to try rapid rooters which are new to me and I haven't figured them out at all yet. 10 cuttings just went tits up after 8 days under a dome. Following 10 more a couple weeks ago. I'm sure the new machine will fix me up.

The 600 is what I think all of RIU should be like. The only place I would bother to ask a serious question that's for sure.

You ever get clones as big and chunky as al b fuct? His clones are just thick as shit. I need to figure out how he got those, or if it was just genetics. My clones are all small and twiggy..

I try to grow big moms and take 12-14 inch cuttings. They may take longer to root, but they are bigger to start with. I fired up the new cloner yesterday, got 42 cheese cuttings and 5 kush.

I've never really looked at Al's cloning technique.

Hey man. I know this is kinda dead, but how do you clean your old Hydroton? They really need to make a biodegradable, light weight, cheap alternative...

Not a problem man. I just post my updates on Club 600 now. I like it there and frankly, being a little less noticeable in the crowd there seems better than hanging out with a great big solo journal.

I just finished reclaiming a bunch of 'ton. It always follows trimming :D. I throw the root balls into about a half a trashcan full of water. Holding the root balls under water, I break them apart with my fingers. I try to keep the roots as intact as possible. So now I have a trashcan full of 'ton and shred of root matter. I take a large steel colander, scoop about a quart of hydroton out of the trashcan and hit it with a hose, moving it around with my hands. This washes all the remaining root matter to the bottom of the colander. Usually when I tip the load out, nearly all the remaining roots stay in the colander. Repeat until done. It's probably the most work of the whole job (cleaning setups is a close second).

I read where a guy zipped up a load of hydroton in a mesh laundry bag and threw it in the washing machine. Comes out super clean without any fine debris. I'm probably getting a new washer/dryer soon, so the old Maytag is slated to take on that task. It would be crazy to go do that at a laundromat, but I think about it :D

You ever get any slime in your aero cloner? I'm having some issues with slime on the tip of my cuttings, and I'm wondering if this will cause them not to root.... I've never had it in my aero, but just noticed it.... If its not one thing its another.

Just threw out some cuttings because of similar issues. Don't know where you are, but we had a heat wave on this planet a couple weeks ago and it par-boiled my clones. Smelled like cabbage lol. I sterilized everything and started over. The air conditioning I have now cools and dehumidifies my whole space so I hope that resolves it. Always something :D
