My PC Grow Box

hello friends, i'm so excited , today i bought a pc grow box for 15$ and i'm going to grow stealth style :d , wow1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg !

this is my pc box size : 65x40x21 cm or 25.6"x15.7"x8.2"

i removed the unnecessary things in box and cleaned that and tomorrow i'm going to light proof the box, what is better for light proofing ? pc box has a 2 free fans ! one 120mm and one 90 mm , is that enough for exhaust and intake or i need more ? . i wanna grow with cfl , i think 42w cfl is better, what u guys think ?

anyway its my first indoor growing , i've done outdoor growing couple of time, but for indoor i'm probably a beginner, i mean recently i read and see a lot about indoor growing on internet, but i never done it like this before

i appreciate that anyone could help me and tell me their opinions and ideas about anything in that, thank u guys , up to 420 !

When you use the word better you need two different arguments.

In such a small space you're probably going to be limited to cfl or LED unless you get a large fan and strap it to the back of the case with some kind of cooling tube.

For light proofing you essentially just want to make a maze for the light. Since light moves in straight lines for the most part it won't make it through said maze, but air being fluid will be able to make it through.

As for the fans...meh. Might want to get more/stronger ones. You're going to have a hard time cooling your case and pushing through a scrubber with a single old 120mm

Hey man, great PC box.

I have to ask, how many lumens does a 42W cfl give out? I am using three 25W that give out 1520 lumens each. So that's 4560 lumens in the PC and that's a nice number.

About the fans, I think you should be all right, cfl's do not produce a lot of heat. I am currently using one for intake (placed on the top of the back panel to push the hot air out) and one for intake (placed at the bottem on the front panel to bring air in). I if were you, I'd use the stronger fan to bring the air out of the box.

Loving the PC case, my one is much smaller. The good thing is, is that you have a lot of fan "grates" if that is what I can call them. Which means if you ever run into any trouble with heat, you can just add some more. I would attach the fans to the metal using twisty ties or something like that. You can always rearrange them later.

I have seen people using multiple fans such as two for intake and one for out (or the other way around). My guess is that there is no such thing as "too much fans" (unless you add so much that there is a bloody hurricane in your PC box), the constant circulation of air will definitely help the plant.

Good luck.

I have just finished my very first PC grow box. If you want you can check it out (in the journal section) and see what I did/used to build it. If you have any questions feel free to ask. :D

hey bro, happy growing ,
congrats to your pc grow box, mine is first too, u got any picture of it, is it finish ? i mean did u harvest ? mine is just 4 days old little girl now :D

i think 42 watt give 2600 lumens, i'm using 4 23w = 4x 1600 lumens = 6400 lumens

about fans, maybe my 2 exhaust fans are good enough for outtaking air but i want to add another for intake , i think my biggest problem is my passive intake ! generally i dont know much about ventilation and constant air circulation ,

btw what the size of you pc box and what strains did u use ?

I've just started my grow actually, my girl hasn't even sprouted from the soil yet. :D

I'm currently doing a grow journal for my PC grow, there are some pictures there if you want to see them: https://www.rollitup.org/t/pc-grow-box-blue-mystic.870885/

That's a nice amount of lumens you got going there. What did you put on the walls?

The size of my case is 42 x 45 x 18,6 (height x length x width) [cm] so it's not as big as yours but it's also not a micro PC. Just right I say. :D I did a test yesterday and kept my lights and fans on and after about 15h I checked the box and the temperature was 25 C so my fans are enough. You'll just have to see for yourself mate and I'm sure there are a lot of guides about air circulstion etc. but generally the fans are used to keep the tempreature down and most importantly give a steady flow of C02 into the box for the plant to use.

Good luck!

Oh right I forgot, I'm currently growing a Blue Mystic Autoflower. I know that in such confined spaces regular indica (indica dominant) strains are better but I just wanted to see what I'm up against. What about you?

i used aluminum foil for walls, did u use white spray paint ? and i'm doing 18/6 light cycling for now , my temperature is between 26-30 c , so i think my passive intake is good enough for now . i think i need a inside fan for flowing air to plant , and i'm planting some seed that i found in some indica stuff :d i wanted to buy some indica autoflower, but they are so expensive here,250$ for 3 autoflower seed !

I used the material that you put on car windows to prevent them from heating up inside. I know it's not the best option but it's all I had. :D

Thanks man, good luck, why not start a grow journal? :bigjoint: or you could just post pics here, up to you.

(WxD=CF)xH=TCF ÷ FanCFM = amount of air exchanged per minuit.
W=width
D=depth
H=height
CF=cubic ft
TCF=total cubic ft
FANCFM=rated cfm output of fan.

not counting efficiency losses through vents ect. That will give you the minimum required air circulation to replace the air in your pc. Dont forget to add more CFM for lights ect.

Wouldn't you need a multiplier for how many times per minute is an acceptable exchange rate.

For example, TCF x (3-or4-or5 exchanges per minute) / ( CFM - restrictions ) Where 1 (100%) would be a minimum?

actually i didn't equate it purposely because it depends on humidity/lights/co2/temps from radiant energy ect... the simple width x depth x height devided by room cfm, will put him in the right direction. it will be up to him to read the stress from too much or too little air flow while keeping the heat from the lights down at the same time.
